What type of wall panelling shall I do?
So, the space will be a downstairs loo. It's coming off my hallway that has timber mouldings as shown.
My question being.... Would flat, wider panelling, installed in a horizontal and rectangular fashion go?
I can fabricate and install pretty much any type of panel and have plenty of sheet material to use. MRMDF, Plywood in 6, 12 and 18mm.
I will also be painting the wall and panelling F&B railings!

Comments (20)Hello mcpeeple, One thing that you could consider is the square tiles on the hearth.. Someone has put these in to compliment the other green tiles which are original. It might be an idea to look into a piece of slate for the hearth. I wouldn't paint the wood though.. The wood works really well with the green tile. The other thing you could do is lean a really large oversized mirror on the rear wall.. This will give the illusion of more space but also offer the eye another focus in the room... Maybe another small mirror or hang some pictures on the small wall between door and outside. A different pendant and slightly lower and also bring the table into the room a little more.. You may want to consider a small side table or something for one of the alcoves.. Wooden with a marble top could be nice to put the plant on and a lamp.. Something taller or so for the other alcove, to give balance but not symmetry! YES I said it... an interior designer who want's something other than pure symmetry.. It's nice to have just a little difference.. Maybe paint the chimney breast a colour with a hint of green if you want to stay light.. or a chalky darker green... Oval mirror hanging from the picture rail over the mantel and leave it bare... Dark green cushions for the dining table and some nice candlesticks... Think it is a really nice room though and I like the idea of painting... doors, skirting all woodwork and architrave... Something that stands out a little and even could be a green... Comments (7)I think we're confusing each other! When i said are you wall mounting? I meant the back panel, not the fire. You say you're having a limestong shelf...........do you mean hearth that sits on the floor. It would be impossible to put a limestone shelf on a wall without support under it. A hearth and back panel set look like this, this is limestone, but comes in different colours. It's very heavy and has to sit on the floor. and....................they are usually finished off with a fire surround the same as the picture that i gave you above and now below. If it's a solid back panel, then you can put the fire on it wherever you like, it doesn't have to sit on the bottom on the hearth like the one above. Comments (5)I think I would build a wrap around desk at desk height at the bottom part of the stairs coming out around the angle of the stairs not only would this provide a desk but also a dressing table for both daughters to use together, obviously if size dictates there will be enough space. at the back of the desk area would be a good position for the fish tank and bookcases. following up the slope you already have the ceiling spots in place so I would use this to put in some glass shelving so the light travels through, this would not need to be the full depth of the stairs. Maybe to break up the angle of the stairs a bit you could introduces some wrap around shelving following the slope up, there are some pictures of wrap around shelves on Houzz you could look up to see what I mean. Read some of the responses and decided not to put any panels and this is the outcome.
Considering there is no sort of panelling I'll have to decorate it another way. Any suggestions?
Even got my bit of Quartz cut and buffed to size. Waiting for tap to arrive in post and I'll get the basin fitted too.
