Anyone used laminam for their countertops and how do you fee about it?
We really like the look of percelain but are horrified by the Neolith story shared here. How about laminam? Thanks for sharing!

Same stuff, same issues, different manufacturer. Everything depends on the skills of your chosen fabricator. Find that person first. Don’t get hung up on a particular manufacturer or color. You don’t get that choice when you can only find 2 guys in a 250 mile radius who each are certified by different manufacturers. And neither in the brand that you want.

does that mean if you can find manufacture certified fabricator, you are safe? Is it fair to ask about this issue first and have a warranty on it before buying? Who should we ask the warranty from? Fabricator? Seller?

We're with Valduff. Shades of purple and plum can really add depth to a chic scheme like yours. Particularly with your gorgeous counter top. Grey is also a good call, as it will coordinate with your kitchen units but allow room to add coloured accessories. It can depend on the light quality in your room- we always recommend grabbing some tester opts in a range of shades. Paint your walls or A4 sheets, and see what the colours look like as the light changes throughout the day.

Any pale colour will stain if you treat it badly so even quartz which is considered to be hardwearing will need care so you don’t leave anything on it that has a strong colour (such as red wine spills etc). Beware- the inexpensive quartz seems to be more plain while the more veined patterns can be three times the price. If you are comfortable with a higher price range you might consider porcelain style products like Dekton where marble like products are widely available.

It's hard to find much. I don't know if the attached are any help. From googling the only cons I've come across are the cost plus installation ( this was from a us site written a few years ago however saying as it was relatively new it may be difficult to find an experienced installer). is it worth asking the supplier? I assume they supply various types of worktops so should be able to give an unbiased view. Sintered stone worktops are really durable. We love Neolith, they are scratch resistant, don't stain and they're also heat resistant which a lot of engineered quartz products aren't! They also come in a really good range of colours and textures.

Absolutely not. These guys would sell their own mothers on the street corner to move slabs. No, I'm not talking through my hat. I've been a victim of their whoredom.

Manufacturer warranties are nearly worthless in the countertop business with the exception of DuPont, who ironically is one of the biggest whores. Get the warm fuzzies from your fabricator; it's the best you will do.

Sintered is porcelain tile. Not stone.

IMO a real stone counter will outlast all of the above I have no experience with laminam but usually porcelain is better than quartz but I would still go granite

Thanks all, is it common to chip/scratch your porcelain(sorry for the typo above) after the installation? Trying to see whether that’s sth we need to continue to worry about after the installation is over. Natural stone looks better but we are looking for low maintenance material.

Natural stone is as easy as possible to look after get a polished granite it will last until you are sick of looking at it. There is no maintenance involved.

This is still very common in the building industry especially in bathrooms and laundry rooms. In rentals we often put it in the kitchen. This is really easily and affordable to fix.

Hello all! We shared this thread with Lindsey Waldrep, Crossville's VP of Marketing, as we offer Crossville Porcelain Countertops (a really cool innovation for countertops--12mm porcelain slabs from Laminam). Lindsey offered this response: "Laminam and Neolith use very different manufacturing processes, so they aren't the same. Neolith is made in a mold so there is a lot of stress in the product. It makes fabrication difficult and can cause product issues on site with improper fabrication. Laminam has no stress as it is not made in a mold. This helps the fabrication process immensely. What I love about a porcelain countertop is that it doesn't require sealing (stone does) and you can put hot pans on it (you can't with quartz). Porcelain is very durable... think about your grandmother's china and how it has lasted for generations versus cheap stoneware from Target or Walmart. If you have a very active kitchen, I would go with an unpolished finish for the highest durability and scratch resistance. I hope this helps." https://youtu.be/BfnDate2ums

We will have a big wall space above cooktop behind a chimney style hood. Is there any concern for using porcelain slab as backslash?

Will it be weird to use high gloss calacatta look porcelain slab on the wall as backslash yet a matte finish solid color quartz (probably just white?) as the surrounding and island countertop, or keep the porcelain for the surrounding countertop and backslash, use the solid white on the island only?

@Crossville, Inc.totally agree on your post. We use Laminam 3mm for kitchen cabinet doors and 12mm for countertops. We have never gotten an issue with material or client. It more related to fabricator skills. This material at present in China very hot.
