Any ideas what color scheme to choose for the walls?

I want to make a change. Definitely don't like the red anymore. All I can really do is paint... Ceiling-walls. Everything else has to stay as is. What colors to choose? Thanks

I think navy blue, green or green-blue would look good and bring the look up to date, or adding some funky wallpaper, something like a William Morris print which I’m seeing a lot in my local coffee shops and restaurants. The last picture is a local trendy restaurant, definitely a maximalist look!

Thank you. I am loving the navy blue here. Hadn't thought it as an option as always considered it would make the space look small. I am thinking mostly white and navy blue to accent? 🤔🤔

Many thanks for your help. I am liking the idea of Egyptian cotton, came across this colour on this site a week ago and thought this may work, you have now helped me decide. Given what you've said, I'd go for a boudoir scheme. Is the existing carpet not salvageable? If not, carpetright have a new dynasty range which is super soft and costs around £200 including fitting. I would however try various carpet shops and look for remnants. I would go for either pale cram, beige or grey. Buy a chandelier pendant light, you can easily pick these up from £30. Either try ebay for a french bed, that can be painted, or buy a traditional iron bed. Realistically you are going to pay £300 including a mattress. Pastel shades all really work together or offset against white walls. It may be nice to have a feature wall, chinoiserie wallpaper would look lovely. Homebase or graham and brown do a cheap one. I would invest in a Louis style bedroom chair, you may be lucky and bid for one on ebay for £50 but if not you can get these for under £100 as new. I think you just need to be savvy with shopping. Try ebay for any furniture that can be painted (or left as is) or junk shops. Also sign yourself up to shopping websites that do flash sales, not always, but sometimes they have genuine bargains. Dunelm do various ranges of french style furniture that is cheap. I'm not sure your budget will buy lots of furniture so for instance buy a wardrobe that has shelves and hanging space. If budget permits it would be nice to give your mother-in-law a dressing table. It would be nice to have deeper skirting boards but that will eat into your budget.

The greys in the photo above do have a hint of blue in them so they won't clash with the worktop. If you want to be safe use the light grey with new handles, but if you want to be adventurous then paint the lower cabinets in the dark grey with new handles and paint the walls, shelves and tiles in the light grey to get the two tone look. The floor looks to be a laminate floor if you had the budget I would change it to a white tile effect lino to add some balance. I would also suggest binning the window dressings if the owner leaves them as the nets block out a lot of natural light.

Sounds lovely. Even if you just paint over the red with navy will help. It goes beautifully with wood too. Good luck!
