Living Room Wall Colour...any ideas welcomed.

I can't change my carpet or curtains at the moment. Looking for a warm paint which is not a light cream to compliment my dark green curtains, cream sofa, dark wood and dark red carpet.

experiment by painting lining paper with testerpots and putting them in different places around the room. How about Dulux Egyptian Cotton?

I agree with Elena on the grey but you need to consider the colour of your floor to go with the wall colour. So maybe grey rug which doesn't cover whole of the floor. Perhaps you can consider painting your fireplace to brighten it up as dark brown looks quite daunting in the small space.

Hi all thank you so much for these comments. My mum (who is in her 60s!) has mainly helped with the design - combined with reviewing a lot of mags & brochures. Interestingly (like Richard’s comment) she is strongly against the built in casing for the fridge freezer... perhaps I’ll flip it round so it’s on the other side & allow some room so if needs be it can be less “built in”. I am concerned a lot of key things are bunched around that little section, one door (opposite the window) is the entrance to the room. The other door, at 90 degrees to it is the utility room which I’m thinking will not be that busy.... Charlotte your comments re range & extractor hood are super helpful & I’ll have a look on the website too :) plus speak with hubby about your suggestion of a call to get a proper / more considered design done. Thank you :) One Plan I’m sorry I totally missed pointing that out - we had the builders take out that pillar. The doors are as shown though. I’ve taken some photos which may help (excuse the mess!) I honestly hadn’t thought about the DW being a trip hazard, bugger. We’ve had the floor concreted down but it’s not tiled so wonder if we can get some plumbing in still to accommodate a sink & potentially DW elsewhere... Kwg also making me think very differently re trying to move more into the other wall area! We’d thought people would sit round the island there which is why the wine fridge & rack was put close by! We went into Harvey Jones & they have prepared the drawings based on the ones we’d done...we were there a couple of hours & we’re pleased to see it marked out properly! Although they don’t do a CAD image which was a bummer when we found out! I’ve had a look online though & think I can do one myself... just need to reassess the layout I think! On budget, that’s a sticky subject as it just keeps getting higher! Would having the mantle done be a job for the builders if we did have it built in like the gorgeous photos hock79 found? Hi All, Thanks for the really great feedback and ideas, particularly the lining paper idea, we've been doing this over the weekend, initially we looked at a range of paints from Valspar (other brands are also available!!), originally we were going towards doing the feature walls in a pink alabaster, with maybe a shade of green on the other walls, I have attached some pictures of the room with the lining paper up, unfortunately some of them dont portray the true colours very well due to the light and the camera. First two photos is the side wall showing the Valspar Asian Silk, which is described as a soft green, it looks lighter when applied to the paper than the tester shows, personally I think its too light, and that the Valspar Perennial Pleasure might be a better shade, especially when mixed with the Nordic Moss sofa. The third picture shows the feature wall, this has a number of colours, starting from the top left we have Toasted Biege, bottom left is Silver Mauve , in the middle we have Peaceful Taupe, and finally Nutmeg Dust. After looking hard at the colours, we are now veering towards maybe doing the whole room in a single colour scheme, as I stated earlier we may look at going for a darker shade of green that the Asian Silk to contrast with the Moss colour sofa and the oak effect flooring, we already have a medium sized chandelier and I'm in the process of buying a Gold mantle wall mirror to sit above the fireplace. Christine enquired about the room size, its approx. 4 x 4 meters, and there is a bay window, in December the existing green curtains will be replaced with lourve style shutters for the full length. Many thanks for your help. I am liking the idea of Egyptian cotton, came across this colour on this site a week ago and thought this may work, you have now helped me decide. And great idea re using lining paper...I will use this in feature.

Porcelain colour, looks a bit too close to what I have aleady, however appreciate your comment. thank you.
