What colour render to go with Chartwell Green garage door

Hi folks, I'm having a garage built in the next couple of months. It will be block and render and the garage door will be RAL Chartwell Green to match the house front and back doors. My builder has advised against pale coloured renders like creams and whites, he said a shade of grey would be a good choice. What shade of grey would go best with RAL Chartwell Green?

Do you have a colour code for it?

2 possibilities I can find is RAL 6021 which is in the Green-Yellow Hue Family and an NCS (natural colour system number) which Johnstones use in the UK. This is in the Green Hue Family.

In order to find potential companion colours it would be helpful to confirm exactly what you are using.

Why did the builder suggest grey rather than off whites? Just curious.

I think the black is too harsh if you change the door, which i am sure you appreciate. I would go for white, if you can keep up to it; it works with all the window frames or a paint colour close to the finished door colour. See how these strike you....

K11agl, thanks for the mellow mocha pic ....yes looks great in your bathroom but I'd hate it on my outside walls lol! The joy of colour swatches eh? I will look up the Crown colour you suggested & some other lighter greys ....maybe even a greige might work? I'd like a modern classic look but don't want it to look too dark or gloomy.

I think your instinct is spot on - the grey does not go with your lovely house at all! You said yourself, 'the grey craze', why follow the herd? Perhaps you should question why you want a 'contemporary colour' instead of one of the many choices which will enhance your beautiful period house. You don't see lovely pink Suffolk cottages, or the black and white half timbered houses characteristic of some areas daubed with grey because it's the latest fad.

Hi Mally, From the image it looks like your house has soft mud bricks on the exterior. Bricks have a dominant character in nature. They may steal the focus point at glance from your front door. Deep-tone coloured doors complements brick I would advise to have white or same colour shaded windows and door frames. Dark shades can be elegant, welcoming colors . Additional tip , you might consider carrying the same style to the garage door. As it will create a design flow throughout the front view. Please do not hesitate to connect me for more assistance. Off Whites and Creams would looked much nicer with Chartwell Green than grey!!

Perhaps the builder had a pot of grey lurking in his garage........

If it was very pale grey it may work, but I couldn’t find an image of a Chartwell Green door with grey render. Below is the door with cream and white render.

He said that off whites and creams tend to show the dirt and any moss growth more than the darker colours like grey.
