Hello, the stairs were a bespoke item made specially for the project.

What a beautiful staircase! It is stunning! Project Home UK suggested a stair runner going down the middle of the steps would perhaps be more effective than a fully fitted carpet. We supply carpets and floorcoverings throughout the UK and Ireland and can also offer a bespoke stair runner service where you choose any one of our floorings or carpets (as long as suitable for stairs of course) and pick a border to go around the edge. We have some beautiful examples of customers 'in-situ' runners in our 'in-situ' ideabook which may give you some inspiration? We recently did a photoshoot in a location with a similar staircase to yours, photo below, where we used a bold striped runner in 100% wool, with a simple whipped edge. The second photo is of a grand central staircases in one of our retailer showrooms which has the new Quirky B Fair Isle Reiko by Margo Selby running down the centre - beautiful! Hi this is my stairs, been really happy with this, the colours are a mix of Browns, greys, blues and greens so could suit your colour scheme. It's not too 'in your face' as the stripes are very fine and I think would work with your flooring which I think is quite subtle anyway. It's by Manx Carpets, coastline in punch & judy colour way. I think it was £30 a sq metre, so less than half the price of crucial carpets (designer at Manx used to work for crucial apparently. http://www.manxcarpets.co.uk/product/coastline/

Just seen this post and as a glass company would like to offer some inspiration and advice with the current staircase as it is with the open threads I would be keen to recommend a stand off fixed balustrade with or without a handrail its really your decision, see the below photo of a job we did with stand offs fixings and a matching stainless steel handrail. If you were to reconfigure the stairs there are other options such as balustrade clamps or baserail fitting as per below photos.
