Kitchen colour scheme

Hello! I'd welcome some thoughts on update the colour scheme in my kitchen-diner in a small Victorian terrace. I currently have a heavy duty pine welsh dresser one one side which is the focal point of my kitchen. I'm planning to paint the dresser from the current chalk blue to something a little darker - think Farrow & Ball De Nimes/Inchyra Blue/Vardo. The dresser sits opposite fixed cream coloured Shaker units with cream splashback metro tiles. The floor is black slate. In the dining section there is a chimney breast and a black iron Victorian fireplace. I'm thinking of bringing more black into the kitchen, possibly black grouting on the cream tiles and black handles on the cream units. My dilemma is what to do with the walls. Ideally, I'd like a statement wallpaper on the chimney breast (opposite the dining table). What colour would be best to bring out - the dresser colour or the units/splashback tiles or the floor? Any other suggestions also welcome. Thanks!

Based on what you described, I would choose a wallpaper that ties the blue and cream together. Since you said 'statement' I would probably go for something strong.

What about 'pines - blue pine' from Little Greene?

Without knowing what the light is like, it's a little hard to recommend. I have the impression of a dark space, because you have a black slate floor and a black fireplace.

Thanks, Neasa. There is good light in the kitchen (a bay window and door opens into the garden) , but you're right, the floor needs to be offset with light colours.

Seen that combo with plain white and looked fab as they'd added colourful kettle and mixer etc . Seen also with chartreuse... They liked it ? I think it could grow on me - but the love wasn't instant ! Also, in an extremely light room,with expresso brown walls !!! Looked amazeballs but was a massive light filled room ! Why not snap a pic and try different colours with the crown or dulux apps ? They are really easy to use !! Have fun !

rachelnapier - yes will post some pics just need to find them and get them loaded up. Re mcslw comment - on the advice of our architect we knocked out our useless utility room. The kitchen was built as a square room but as with a lot of houses like mine built in the 1990s, they put in a utility room which served to sell it as having a 'utility room' but all it did was turn a square room into an L shaped room and being on the east side blocked out most of the light - it also became a dumping ground for stuff that should really have been housed in the garage! Knocking out the utility room and inserting two windows on the east side has dramatically change the amount of light - as have two sky-lights (its a single storey/bungalow). Appreciate that in a house unless you extend you might not be able to do this. People that have seen the before and after have asked where the extension starts - but we haven't extended, the light in the room and the space we have gained from knocking out the utility room has created a much larger / lighter space. Our utility room is now housed in one cupboard (with washing machine and dryer stacked). We now have room for a dining table and are currently in search of a small sofa to complete the room. This is also is our 'forever' home so for us was worth the cost, going to the additional expense might not be justified for every home.

We're going for a white gloss handless kitchen and want a grey worktop. I would prefer other way round, but husband not keen. I love the caesarstone symphony grey, but am worried after reading some online reviews about staining. Anyone had experience of this? Or other suggestions?

Hi Helen, Quartz is a fantastic material with some beautiful options. However you should look at Corian as you get a seamless finish when you continue this up the walls as your splash back. This will be really practical for behind the sink. The best advise I can give you is to keep it all very simple, therefore when you place this property on the market the new owners will fall in love with it. I would use railings on your pantry doors to give a nice colour contrast. Hope this helps Alfred
