What would deter you from buying a house?
Comments (35)We bought our house 15 years ago with an open mind but wanting some minimum basics - white bathroom suite and separate loo, kitchen / diner or scope to have one, 4 bedrooms, large - preferably bay - window for Christmas tree and a cat-flap. We got a Victorian fixer-upper - 5 bedrooms, a space for a kitchen diner (had to move some plumbing and gas into it and convert old kitchen into utility), lovely 11ft high ceilings, gorgeous tall bay window, cat-flap into the utility, wood-burning stove - on the road parking (oops) and it was in local guide books and sometimes a walk-around tour! I walked into the place with an open mind and immediately loved the atmosphere, it felt like home. High ceilings and off the road parking would be priorities next-time though, we love our high ceilings and everyone who visits us does too....See MoreIf you could build a house from scratch, what would you build?
Comments (25)I'd personally go for the modern home with a partial view of the woods! Floor to ceiling windows and geometric architecture. Of course, in this dream world, the house would be located where it could receive daily unobstructed sunlight and the it would be build with green technology. :)...See MoreWhat sort of light would you use in this living room

If I were you I would keep to a fairly simple shape like a drum e.g http://www.pagazzi.com/shop-for-lighting/ceiling-lights/davis-extra-large-pendant-silver.html I can't tell from your photos whether a warmer colour would go better but the shape won't detract from the wall paper on the chimney Brest and ties in with the fairly simple mantle but a larger size will stop it blending into the background. Then you can add a bit more interest with your cabinet lighting etc....See MoreWould Sash Windows suit our new house?
Comments (8)Hi, Sash windows are also one of my favourites, however they will not suit the property you have. Unfortunately it will be quite out of place as the period of your house will not suit them. You have to always consider the house style and what would look best - you could end up spending a lot of money and it just not doing your home any justice. Think of a mid-century sort of styling, look at Crittall windows if you want something with a period feel. If you were wanting to give the house a boost you could look at a slim line dark frame to the windows, which would emphasis the render work and also the colour of the bricks....See Moreannabellaamy
