"Repairing" original tiles

Whilst doing some renovations and pulling off some wood cladding, we discovered original tiles in jugendstil from the early 20s. The previous owners had at some point decided that wood cladding was nicer and managed to drill into the tiles to affix said cladding.

I want to desperately keep the tiles but have been advised that removing single tiles would be extremely hard. In addition the curved edge tiles i can't find anywhere. I have found a supplier of the normal shaped ones.

Is it possible to fill the holes in the tiles with a type of resin, to colour it then green and coat with epoxy?

Looking for ideas :)

I have to agree that removing single tiles would be hard to do.

Not sure about filling and colouring. Would you be able to get the colour spot on?

They are in such great condition (at least on my screen) that I find it hard to believe they are 100 years old. If they are originals then search auction sites and salvage yards.
I would try to take off one tile- sometimes it is easy.
And a repair won’t be seamless but I think an enamel paint may give you the gloss sheen you need.

Dear Jennifer, i agree with the other commentators the fireplaces look original. They might be marble but are more likely to be marbleised slate. But the tiles look very new. I am sure originally the fireplace would have had a caste iron insert. I have a large marbleised slate fireplace in my lounge, and another in the cellar which had been removed from the dining room by previous owners. Although large my fireplaces would have had caste iron inserts, both removed before I bought the house. The only thing that appears strange in your photographs is the location of the fireplaces, especially the top one which appears to be located in a corner. Has this room been divided, the wall to the right of your picture may be new, butted up against the chimney stack. The skirtings also appear new, which would confirm this. You don't say whether or not you are concerned how dominant these features are. I was concerned for some time as to how to integrate my fireplace into my white and Ivory colour scheme, however a brushed steel insert, firegarde has helped. I'll send photographs if that would help.

Hi Agccheung - I would get a professional in - I looked at doing myself using the Original Style tiles that Victoria mentioned but it is very tricky. I used the Victorian Tile Company London & then Victorian Creations in Herts but google around & see who does locally. Yes it is a great feeling when the carpet comes off & you see those great tiles. Not based on any expertise (sorry) I would say it’s a later addition, so not original. I do feel the tiles do have some age to them though. But do you like them? That’s probably the ultimate criterium. For what it’s worth I think it’s a lovely colour.

Sadly none in stock. Apparently they are made to order. Sometimes they are available within 7 to 10 days. Usually 2 weeks - currently 4-5 weeks. We have located a company in Newquay with a large order in their warehouse for a client. They are asking their client if they will release 10 sq m for us. Keeping our fingers crossed.

I can’t help with repairing but this company do similar looking tiles, and they also do curved ones to go round corners: https://newterracotta.com/hues/?ss=163 There may well be other companies who do similar tiles as it’s very in fashion at the moment. In case you decided to take these off and replace with replica.

They are definitely the originals :) We had a tiler in who inspected them. I have been searching everywhere (in germany where we live) and i'm coming up with nothing. These tiles are the most exact colour and style fit https://www.golem-baukeramik.de/en/Art-Nouveau-tiles/Wall-tiles/Art-Nouveau-tiles-single-coloured/F-10-7.html but the curved edge tiles don't seem to be produced any more
