Ground floor redesign: kitchen/ family diner/ flexible living space
Comments (8)hi - with this new door configuration it opens up further possibilities - safety wise it's best to move your hob in from the edge of the island - so pan handles are less 'knock able ' designing to suit rooms is ok - but much better to design to suit the people using the room too ! to do this effectively a good designer will need to find out as much as possible about you and the members if your family - how you cook/ shop how often you entertain etc etc it takes time and when done well provides the best results for the room. this is what I do for a living - I don't sell product - purely design !- so instead of offering 'free design ' like studios do ( then making margin on the products you buy) - I charge a fee to design and then you shop around and get the best deal saving much more than the design fee in the process ! so you can see with this in mind - I can't design it for free for you on this thread - but happy to take it further in a professional capacity if you want to drop me an email ! ( nb we are concept designers who can take on whole houses too - so could look at the project in entirety too if needed - as what you do with each room has a knock on effect on the next ! ) kind regards Karen OnePlan...See MoreGround Floor Plan redesign/renovation
Comments (11)Remove the wall between the dining room and kitchen and have the kitchen in the dining room with an island then the kitchen is ‘all seeing’…into the front sitting room and the new kitchen/dining/living room across the rear. I would put a door from the utility into the garage and flip the utility into the rear of the garage along with the wc, you could have an additional entrance recessed at the bottom the stairs, I’d keep the front of the garage for storage and retain a bigger entrance (your current entrance), for guests. i would move the utility entrance along the garage wall to the ’new utility’ to square up the new kitchen/dining/living area...See MoreGround floor redesign - how to best make use of large floor space
Comments (8)Ask your self if the kitchen is actually a good kitchen….. if you need a utility room next to the kitchen for additional refrigeration or storage or additional work surface then it’s not a good enough kitchen for you. Ideally the utility should be just a laundry room in which case it’s best near the bedrooms upstairs or at least near the bottom of the stairs....See MoreGround floor layout re-design - how best to maximise the space?
Comments (5)Think about how you would use the house. You definitely have space for an island if you removed the peninsula. The space at the front would make a great snug or games area. I would keep my dining area alongside the location of the existing kitchen and update it. Is the garden south facing? You could then arrange your sitting area with the fireplace as a focal point. If you built out to corner bottom left then you would have a bigger utility and/or kitchen. I'm sure you could fit a pantry in there too. If you didn't mind accessing the study through the family room then you could remove the door and passage to make the family room bigger. So much space, a lot of possibilities....See MoreOnePlan
