need help decorating my north facing living room
Comments (14)Thank you yes, it is the room! I bought a tester pot of the F&B Strong White, but when tested it looked cream. I also bought the F&B Anthrocite which was a bit darker. Will try the Bone White also. Love the cushions in the pic - navy with the piping. Would also maybe like to go a bit darker on the back wall as in the pic but wondered if this might be too cold in a north facing room. I know that when the colours dry they appear darker and also in a larger space than just a test area, so may well try something along the lines of the Anthrocite....See MoreDark north facing lounge
Comments (6)Hi Dee - If you'd like to lighten the room then I suggest removing the curtains and blinds and replacing with light plantation / venetian blind. Paint the window sill white. Introduce colour and interest in the rest of the room through well chosen cushions, throw and rug. Also don't forget lighting can play a really big part in helping a dark room feel more interesting - think about creating pools of light with different task lights (you can get great statement pieces inexpensively). The other way to look at this room is to stop fighting its natural tendency to darkness and positively embrace it. Paint your walls a dark inky hue and make this space cosy and inviting. You'll be surprised and how well this approach works. Sometimes trying to make a dark room feel light just makes it feel dingy, whereas celebrating its dark nature brings out warmth and character and creates a jewel in the crown. A conversation piece. Check out Abigail Aherne - she is a big advocate of this style. I painted my sitting room a dark blue and it is endlessly admired by visitors to the house, I have encouraged clients of mine to be braver with colour and you may find like they have that it gives you more options than you first thought you had....See MoreHow to decorate/furnish this through lounge/diner?
Comments (21)@sonia I'm leaning towards grey walls too. My bedroom is going to be goose dawn and teal tension (I think!) so I'm wondering about doing the living room in the same greytl bulk buy paint! It's a bit darker than polished pebble though. I like those pics and I have a rose gold standing lamp already... Here with my desk (grey and rose gold)...See Morelarge family room with kitchen diner and lounge decorating ideas
