How much space between fridge freezer and radiator?

In a l-shape kitchen, at the end of one run I would like to place my fridge freezer. But on the adjacent wall (think L shape) I have a radiator. How much space does there need to be between the two? They are on different walls, but both in the corner of each arm if the L if that makes sense!

I'm thinking how much harder the appliance will have to work in an area of relative heat?

Some (I'm guessing most) American style fridge freezers need extra space for their door swing, but yes, inbuilt ones take up 2 x 60 cm, that's probably 20 cm more. But you will have more space inside the fridge/freezer too. American style ones are big lumps, but offer less space inside (I have one). If you can, look for a fridge that has a fresh zone (I don't know the technical term, differs from brand to brand), keeps your meat and veggies fresh for longer. Anyway, it's something to consider. Choices, choices :-)

Personally I have never understood the idea that you take an appliance like a fridge and then put a frame around it to make it the focal point. In my opinion an integrated fridge is better as it works with the contemporary feel of a modern kitchen or the traditional feel of a shaker door. An integrated fridge also doesn’t sit forward of the cabinets, won’t have a gap around it and the fridge aperture will be wider allowing easier storage. Furthermore if you look at the size of chiller space you will likely find the integrated fridge is bigger.

You can't have the dining table and the kitchen adjacent to each other as 5 metres is not wide enough. Hence why I moved the plan around and the positions of things to give you more space. I don't like blocking the flow front to back by putting the Utility on the right immediately. Gaining more length will also help my type of layout as i mentioned earlier. I think you have to compromise on the snug or the utility / downstairs loo area, as the house isn't wide enough for both. Since you already have a lounge and a utility / downstairs loo will add more value, i'd go for the latter. I'd go for this type of layout at 5m extended . No snug..........you don't really need it. If you want all of the above accommodated, then you'd have to go out to around 7m. You may also find difficulty with the plumbing, so, even though I put the option of the utility and toilet on the left in my previous render, i'm not sure it would work. ( it's possible ). You would end up with something like this, but also bear in mind, that due to the depth of the extension you will need a sky lantern in the roof on the left as the snug would be dark without one.

With a handleless door 19mm is just enough to open the doors, but not enough to take out the glass shelves. We mostly sell Siemens and Bosch (they're really twins), no problems with the veg/freezer boxes. Some of my customers are ok with the shelves staying in, but others add a filler of thicker panels on either side of the tall cabinets. Because the thicker panels don't fit in the slim lined top and side panel of the cooking are, you could make the countertop 65cm deep, so it will stand out. I'd also suggest removing the vertical 'handle strip' on the left of the oven. Hinges on the left side, it'll be fine. Also, pick a fridge cabinet without the little panel on top. There'll probably be a gap when opening the fridge door, but it'll look better on the outside. (Have a shelf on top of the fridge and you can store some large plates or oven tray there, just make sure there's enough ventilation for the fridge.) Or.. Add another 'handle strip' on the right hand side of the fridge. And keep the strip left of the oven. Balance.

If it’s a modern day appliance it shouldn’t really matter. The insulation these days is good. Many kitchens have ovens sited next to a fridge or freezer with no problems.

Yep, if it were an oven it would be fine, but radiators are the opposite of insulated! So the air circulating will be that much warmer. Where I want to put it, the back of the fridge will be on a (cold) outside wall, and the radiator on an inside wall the front of the appliance. If the heat exchange happens at the back hoping it will be okay?

I'd spent ages dreaming up the new positions of some lovely in-frame units, then realised there might be an issue !

Could you replace the radiator with a hydronic kickspace heater instead ? (Under a cabinet that you won’t be storing food in )

I would move the radiator if there is wall space elsewhere. That’s the joy of organising a kitchen layout, there’s always something that gets in the way!

Hmm, maybe kickboard, but I actually only have one base unit (apart from the sink), and warm pipes would have to traverse behind fridge (flagstones and thick stone walls mean can't 'bury' anything), will ponder....
