Changing my thermostat

I have papered my hall, and I'm very pleased with it. However, my room thermostat is as old as the house, and the cover is falling off. Sadly wiring isn't my forte! Can I swap them over? If so, what wire goes where? Do I need some sort of back box?

Would appreciate someone talking me through this!

Hmm, it looks good looking towards the house but from the house its a path leading to nowhere really. You could do with something to screen or enliven the sheds at the end. I'd recommend taking the path our and putting two small ones in about a 1/4 way in from the edges to boarder the lawn, the use the other 1/4s for smaller garden rooms with maybe some raised beds in the patio. I have an interest in this sort of thing so if you need some help laying out the structure or visualising it I can help there. Its just a 10 minute scratch model but it show what I'm meaning.

New windows have changed the colour of my new shutters

Has anybody any had any experience of this? Had some new windows fitted a couple of months and when I put the old white blinds back up they appeared yellow/cream from the outside. Given the fact we had building work done I just presumed the were filthy with dust, highlighted by the new white window frames. Have since had new white shutters fitted (see photo) and still have the same issue. I’m not naive enough to think they would match the same white as the window outside but is this acceptable? Due to their energy efficiency the fitter is trying to tell me these types of new windows will forever more make white blinds look yellow/cream.

I think the changes you are proposing will not suit the period style of your home, I’m afraid. Keep the front porch back from the arch where it belongs. The style of door you are proposing doesn’t really suit the house I’m afraid. Here’s a beautifully updated 1930s house.

I would not attempt to switch this over yourself if you're not competent with wiring. Do you have a receiver and would you be able to connect your new thermostat to that? If not you will need to get an accompanying receiver. This looks like a non-branded Chinese import. I would go for a well known UK-based brand with customer care you can call up if something goes awry.

This is something I was considering so interesting replies. I asked hubby if he could do it and he doesn’t know. I wondered about asking the plumber who is a friend and lives over the road. If he puts a new central hesting system in a house then he’d have to put the thermostat in too.
