Help with Garden Design Please
Comments (5)Hi, I understand your frustration at your neighbours miss matching fence. Being the sunniest part of the garden it only accentuates the fault with a spot light. You could add some horizontal trellis to the upper part or if your budget can stretch do the whole fence. Painted soft wood can be a really economical solution and give a great effect.Your square patch of grass is only adding to the limitations of your garden. its drawing attention to the four corners and not creating an mystery. Having a curve to your grass will lead the eye away and create the illusion of more space.I would suggest building a curved seating area on your south side in the L shape by your shed. Railway sleepers positioned vertically with a chamfered top edge create a dramatic feature and are a really cost effect solution to screening. I would mask the end of your garden with these positioned across the whole width with an entrance to the right ( North side) The sleepers would then decrease in height as they curve round masking your shed and forming a built in seating area. They can also be stained adding to the dramatic effect. Black can look great if balanced well with bold planting. You are very fortunate to have a lovely hedge on your right, it could look fantastic. Good luck with your project!...See MoreSouth west facing garden design dilemma
Comments (17)Last one. Bit more formal but in a modern way. Deck and gravel area are raised up a little with a step for the change in levels. Would need a little more working out I think but definitely achievable. Small strip of planting area between trampoline and gravel area I was thinking could be trellis with some climbing plants such as clematis. Doesn’t have to be too high just enough to cover the view of ugly trampoline legs 🙂. Water feature could be something very modern looking but you could just use a planter with some topiary perhaps to keep costs down. For the base of the play area you could use bark chips or I think you can get recycled rubber chippings, not sure how much these cost but bark chips are readily available. Anyway hope this gives you something to think about. I think first thing to do is get the fence replaced then get a few quotes in for patio as this is likely to be the highest cost. It’s possible to diy paving but you do need to make sure that the drainage and levels are correct. A big job best left to experts I reckon but do ask landscapers if there are ways you can help to keep costs down....See Moregarden design dilemma
Comments (35)Not the best of conditions to work with but not the end of the world. Underground permeable drains are perhaps what your aunt had installed. They are an expensive and disruptive option which is probably only worth undertaking if the ground is seriously boggy whatever the time of year. Plants and trees take up a lot of water so worth getting more plants in. You may find that since you felled the tree the ground around there will be somewhat wetter. However looking at what you already grow in your garden I don’t imagine the boggy conditions you describe are all that bad. Maybe worse in some areas than others. Any hard landscaping you plan to do will probably need deeper foundations which will up the cost but worthwhile if you don’t want your paving to start settling and become uneven. Installing paths along well used routes will keep your feet dry....See MoreTriangle shaped Garden dilemma
Comments (2)I think your plan is sound. I would probably put a bigger patio near the dining room doors and I probably wouldn’t stress too much about the trampoline because by the time you have finished the building work for the extension and and started on the garden the kids will be growing out of it. I might in it’s place put a shed for bikes with direct access to the drive...See Moresarahmccann72
