I am taking the plunge....but how many walls?!
Comments (12)Like others have said, I personally would paint all four walls the dark blue (if the room is as light and bright as it looks in the photo). It does seem counter-intuitive to paint a bright room a dark colour, but if the quality of light is good, using a dark colour can really highlight that quality. And the lovely thing about the dark F&B paints, in my experience, is the way they look different at different times of day. I think the combination of dark blue-grey-tan is lovely, and a large mirror against a dark blue wall would look fantastic. If you decided that the room wasn't well-lit enough for all dark blue, I would go for just one wall - two walls one colour and the other two walls another colour might look like you just couldn't make up your mind. And by the way, I really like the way you've mismatched your sofas - not always an easy thing to get right!...See MoreWall colour for smallish dark living room
Comments (13)Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated. So I'm kind of stuck with the chaise as it is but could move it to another room (at the cost of moving the problem elsewhere). It's not actually mine so I don't really want to go to the expense of reupholstering it. The chest also isn't mine, but I'll have them both for a few years yet. If I move the chaise I'd probably have to swap it for a deep red rocking chair I have in another room (see pic), which would again influence the colour scheme. The sofa would fit under the window but there's a radiator there so it's not really ideal. I'll look into moving the TV point though as that would allow me to have chaise / rocking chair and sofa on two walls together. I agree that the blinds are an issue so I think I'll try to get either a glass covering instead, or some white blinds. I may even paint the windows white too if I'm brave enough. For the walls, I liked your mock up Carolins and the suggestions to use a light grey. That's what I was already considering. Still can't decide whether to have a dark grey feature wall, but it's tempting. I agree with the accent colour suggestions - I really like pink or yellow with grey. Carolins - where are those yellow toned cushions from? Definitely a big mirror too. Hmm decision time!...See MoreHow to clean smudges / marks off newly painted matt walls?
Comments (11)I stopped using Dulux because of the wet/dry join visibility. I've found that Johnstones paint doesn't do this, so I'm guessing that it'll show painting new on old. As a thought try a Magic Eraser. I've found these very useful for marks. You can get them now from the £ shops too. Worth a try. It's so annoying when things like this happen. Good luck....See MoreMatt vs Gloss Kitchen Units?
Comments (7)I have a super Matt dove grey handleless kitchen at my main home and a gloss white kitchen in my holiday home in Somerset. I can compare the two. It’s easy to clean the gloss doors. Either wipe with a damp cloth and buff up or use Vuplex. Job done. Granted they’re gloss so show the marks more easily. Super matt doors, now although they don’t necessarily show the marks, they are there and once the light shines in the right direction on them they look bad. Even if you look at them at a specific angle with the light on them you can see the marks. Nightmare. I’m speaking from experience here. How do you clean them? Well I use a magic eraser and sometimes it works well, other times not so well. Vuplex, mmmm, well I’m of the opinion that this product should be used on gloss only although that’s not what I’m told by my door manufacturer. So the other alternative is a soapy cloth, wrung out almost dry, wipe over and then buff up. Tried them all and no the heavy marks are still there .... and I’m not a mucky person. That’s just my experience and opinion. For looks I prefer the Matt as opposed to gloss but the cleaning of them is another matter .... unless anyone has any other ideas, and I’d gladly welcome them....See MoreUser
