Smallish living room layout confusion
Comments (55)Thanks guys for the tips on the skirting board, carpet, and TV-bench wall. Loving that last pic carolins - would be great to find a space for a huge canvas somewhere in the living room. Re: the living room wall I've been putting some ideas together and I'm thinking maybe wall-mounted shelves above the bench. I'm not keen on IKEA's floating 'Lack' line as the shelves themselves are too chunky at 5cm think, which leaves me looking at options with visible brackets. Also, I've been looking at IKEA's 'Ribba' picture-ledge which looks like a great way of leaning art, photos, and attractive books against the wall. Loads of pictures on my pinterest boards (linked above) but here are a couple more. What do you think? I've never bothered with wall-mounted shelves before because until now I've always rented, so I've no idea how to fit them, or what sort of weight they can bear. I don't want to be worrying about them falling off the wall or caving my house in... Comments (8)Hi Sian! I would not recommend painting the wall red or green as per se. If you have a small room and furniture is red/green you need to be careful with wall colour, I suggest keeping it as neutral as possible. Soft/dark grey is a safe choice and looks good in contrast to red. It would be good to see the rest of the furniture for a better perspective, perhaps you can take photos with your phone? Check out the option below for colours. Considering your description of the room, I would think about Fashionable grey or Moroccan brown (disregard the blue and brick colours) ? See below the options, from this palette you can also think about grey owl or similar....See MoreLayout for small-ish open plan lounge / dining room - blank canvas
Comments (6)I'd go for nothing in the bay except for maybe a low chest, the windows are very long and to close to the floor to stand anything in front of them, without obscuring them. Therefore, if you place a sofa on the long 3 m wall you can then put the t.v / hi/fi system on the shorter, hallway wall opposite, creating a focal point. Place the dining room table and chairs at the other end of the room nearer the kitchen. This leaves you plenty of space to move about. I'd have maybe side tables or a side table near to both ends or at least one end of the sofa to have a lamp for reading etc You could also opt for a standard lamp!...See MoreShould I paint my living room in a new build in a dark colour?
Comments (5)I would avoid painting the whole room this colour, it is very dark. The conservatory takes some light away anyway, so it's not the lightest room. Inchyra Blue is a blue/green, desaturated and dark colour. You could try a blue/green, desaturated slightly light version, it may work better. Here it is on one wall: And here is Oval Room Blue in a different room that looks dimly lit: They look similar due to the amount of light the room naturally receives....See MoreCarolina
