Using a DIY dining table outside

I have a dining table which we made using powder coated metal hairpin legs and the top is Malaysian rubberwood which i sanded and painted with a chalk paint then a few coats of polyurethane varnish on top.
We are changing it for a large one and rather than sell this, I was wondering if I varnished underneath, if it would be durable enough to use outside???
Anyone know?
I know rubberwood is not good outside in its natural table state but if I perhaps add a coat of yacht varnish over all of it - would it last? Just like any non outdoor wood?

In a lot of cases, I suspect the answer would be for the same reason you do eat at a table - it's what people generally grew up doing, it's what they're used to doing and, being part of the television generation, it's just too convenient to do otherwise. Ironically, I don't tend to watch very much television at all, except when I'm sat, tray in lap, eating ... Another possibility is that not everyone has the space for a permanent formal dining table, and use one with fold-down leaves, for example, which can be hidden away behind an armchair, or somesuch, and wheeled out requiring the moving of other furniture) for special occasions - entertaining, or xmas dinner. For my own part, it's a combination of familiarity, and the fact that it's simply more comfortable to sit in an armchair, or on a sofa, tray on lap, even if I don't bother putting the television on.

I've just found two different lights on their site that are 38cm diameter. My wooden plinth on the ceiling is 200cm (table is 310cm). If I have 3 of these lights and mount them 5cm from the ends, that gives me 38cm in between each light! Is that perfect? To have about one light's distance between each light? Also, I am usually a person that goes for something a little out of the ordinary..... so was thinking of doing one bronze light holder, one brass and one chrome just to add a bit of detail. Shall I just do white for the lamp cords or something else? Trying to stay as neutral as possible in the room (i love bright colours but am just using them for accents). Would love to hear your thoughts! There is a choice of two lights - which one should I have?! Pictures of both (one has bulb visible at top and the other doesn't.

Hi Angel This a a common questions and it always comes down to what minor things you can sacrifice to get the best of all worlds. Do I have a pendant to create a dining zone? Do I try and retain the view outside? Do I make the space versatile for parties? In my opinion a light over the table looks great if you do not have one already over the kitchen island (if you have one). Keep the light above head level (of most of your usual guests) so that you can talk to each other . It may be worth cutting out cardboard and offering it above the table to see what works for you. The light doesnt have to be too imposing it could be something light the light below. or maybe something that is a feature but still see through like the below There are not many rise and fall lights out there that can really reduce that much to be out of the way on a standard height ceiling but if you have tall ceilings then it could work. Yes we laid the new table top on top of our old table but didn’t attach the new legs as we spotted a chip in the table side (packaging was damaged). Unfortunately Mr LTS only took this one photo - what do you think? It was so sunny outside we closed some of the blinds but the sun made the room hazy so I think I need to get the table out again. Typically it isn’t sunny now! My next post will be suggestions for cushions for the sofas!
