Comments (29)Hi Allison Oz, assuming UK tax law applies to your situation I would say it is definitely worth looking into. It's not a situation I've come across before where you are retrospectively claiming back the VAT. However it may be that you first accumulate the evidence it was vacant for 2 years and then write to the builder requesting that he reissue the invoices and a refund. Your builder will need to adjust his VAT returns and possibly make a disclosure to HMRC. I would speak to the builder and ask him to speak to his accountant. You might find the following document useful. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-notice-70045-how-to-correct-vat-errors-and-make-adjustments-or-claims/vat-notice-70045-how-to-correct-vat-errors-and-make-adjustments-or-claims...See MoreOne piece of advice you wish you'd known before buying a house?
Comments (103)Remember that Rome wasn't built in a day.. Neither the house you want to make a home... If the house feels right. With your Head and your heart, location. Then if it's the house for you it will work.. Move in and adjust each day... Yes you can put your Mark on the house, yes it will be your HOME... But live with it for at least a short while.. Don't be hasty to paint.. See where the sunshine..shines...See where it makes dull on a dark day...So you Can add a mirror maybe to reflect the daylight.. Don't make the pennies stretch any further than they are.. Remember that sadly the bills have to come first..!!!.... Improvise pieces to fit and...if you have to save for the right item....Then save..!!! it will be more practical in the end , rather than buying for the sake of it and having to buy another a few months down the line... Don't fill every room with furniture.... My biggest mistake... Use a piece like a sideboard and think practically the uses.... Is it big enough.. One more draw or cupboard would have better than two smaller ones...don't be afraid to add old stuff that we all now reuse..paint it ...add your own art work... It's a long journey.. To find the destination of all your dreams... And when you feel you have achieved what you have done...then sit back and enjoy all your hard work. And live in your HOME... Enjoy. Relax.. And above all have fun......See MoreWhat do you want to read about on Houzz this year?
Comments (53)I can't help but speculate that perhaps the reason so many houses featured are London based or more high-end properties is because most of the case studies are uploaded by architecture or design professionals who employ professional photographers to show off the finished results. These services aren't cheap and I don't imagine these companies get too many requests from owners of smaller 30's - 70's era homes, especially from outside the capital, because the homeowners won't see a return on the investment. I would have thought requesting design-savvy home owners load more of their own photo's would help bridge the gap. Perhaps on the next newsletter you can ask homeowners to consider contributing any photos of spaces they are particularly proud of?...See MorePlay room for a 5 year old and 7 year old girl - impossible task
Comments (18)Hi. The width of the room is 210m. The nibs are around 300 each so they are quiet narrow. Do you mean put the tall storage there in either side ? I have got a very light reclaimed wooden floor to go into the play room. It’s very Scandinavia style which I love but I wanted to carry this through to he play room in a fun way. For the cabinets for storage I did have another idea: which was use the ikea ivar cabinet and maybe have them wall hung or on the floor (pic below). The reason why I chose these cabinets is because they are only 300 depth will be nice and flush with the nib (if that makes sense) and they took away all the toys. The cabinets come in pine so I could paint them to get the stream line look. I’ve never really done anything different before so do you think this could work? I’m thinking in trying to pull something off that really could work or that it may end up a total disaster. thanks...See MoreKyle Barrett
