Metal decorative door frame

Hi

I live in an ex council 1950/60s house. The internal door frames are metal with decorative trim. We’re going to be creating 2 new door ways and would love to find matching frames. Does anyone know where I might find these? Google is unfortunately not helping me in this search! Photo to show what I mean 😊

I don't think I've ever seem architrave like that, but its lovely. I think you'd have to be extremely lucky to find more of it, you might have to make it up yourself from stock trims; It looks like a base panel with two half round strips and a larger half round but in a rope twist which can't be found readily now but you could use a larger half round and a saw to cut the groves?

I've honestly not seen that before here in the UK but have abroad, so maybe they were imported?

I think your only option will be to get them custom made if you want the new to be metal too.

Ok so this may sound stupid and I have no idea if it can be achieved, I am sure a lot of tradesmen on here would laugh but I’m trying to think outside of the box for a shoestring budget. So I’m a major fan of ikea hacks, you can customise furniture for so little money and you really can be quite creative. As for faking Crittall Windows........ providing this is for internal aesthetics only I would love someone to experiment with this idea in a man cave. Use the black powder coated aluminium pax wardrobe frame from ikea and get a glazier to cut the glass to required size using the ikea inserts as a template. Obviously your door widths would have to be increased but this could work against stud partitions in large apartments to separate areas of space maybe? U can all laugh at me now!

I'm totally with E D on this one. I actually like the wood, and the pale walls, it has a bit of a Barbican vibe to it. I would consider painting the door at the back a very dark colour such as Railings to shorten the space and install some really good quality LEDs. I would keep it pale, if the pure white is a bit cool then F&B Wimborne White takes the edge off the coolness. You could also put in a really bright vintage runner such as a Moroccan one like this. Etsy has lots of beautiful ones.

I would paint the skirting boards in pointing to make the ceilings look higher (perhaps the coving too). Why not use a complimentary paint for the doors, maybe something Oxford stone (will appear a bit lighter on wood). I actually quite like the conservatory but you could pick another colour for the stairs? I would just say if you’ve done the whole house in pointing make sure you’re 100% happy as it’s a lot easier to change walls than wood!

Pretty sure they were put in when built as the metal goes deep into the wall. We tried to reverse a door once but the hinges are moulded to the frame so the whole thing had to come out and took most of the wall with it! Perhaps the new frames will have to be less decorative... we’ve had so many different tradesmen comment on the style of this house and the door frames. Obviously not a standard council build!

You could make your own out of wood bead. I remember Isaac Lord used to have a good selection of wood beading.

Once painted it would look the same as the metal ones.

Just out of curiosity what other unique features does the house have? Is it part of an estate?

Thanks, this was suggested by a builder. No not an estate, just a regular village road, all different kinds of houses from different years. Just 2 pairs of semi council houses which are more of a cottage style. All the downstairs is beamed, although a lot have been covered over the years. And the stairs run along the front wall if that makes sense? It was built with an upstairs bathroom with no loo, and the loo downstairs although I understand that’s not unusual for council houses of this age.

I've seen a number of steel framed houses built by British Steel (BISF) for a number of councils. I wonder if they had anything to do with this?🤔
