90" Island - Help me with countertop shape

I'm having Fantasy Brown leathered marble templated soon on my 90" island. I'm debating on the shape - whether to go rectangle or have a slight arch to break up all the straight lines of my kitchen. Overhang in middle area (if I do arch) would be 17" past the base cabinet (supports will be installed). Are arches still popular for islands? TIA

I need to see your kitchen plan but generally I do not like arched or curved islands and IMO 17' overhangs are to much I think 15" is perfect

We had an arched overhang on one of the islands in our showroom. It was 15" deep. The display has since been replaced, so I can't post pictures.

ETA: The island was between 86 and 90" long.

The plans are being made as we speak, but I can give you a basic idea. The dinning table is 6 feet long. I have not added any windows/ bi-fold doors depending on the kitchen layout. Hope this helps. Red-pink lines are going to be doors.

I think you see bars (serving beers) with stools and no overhang. These are fine for a social setting where one person might be sitting with their back to the bar chatting to others in the room. If you intend to use the bar for food you need to face the island so will need the recommended leg room. Could you swap the 600 deep cabinets for 300mm deep? The cost of new carcasses might not be too bad. You should also talk to your kitchen fitter as he may be able to install them after the quartz.

Hi, here are a couple of mixed countertops examples. I like your floor. See if you can take the cabinets all the way up to the ceiling. Looks better, gives more storage space (even if you can only reach it using a stepladder). The floor doesn't limit you on the cabinet colours. See if you can take door samples home and hold them on the floor (vertically, so it shows the colour as it would be when installed). Do the same with countertop samples. Put them all together and make your choice. Or post photos and ask opinions here, if you can't make a choice at all :-) A light countertop will reflect more light, make the kitchen seem brighter. You can mix that with a dark wood. I will see if I can find one of the pro houzzers to look at your dilemma, so they can give you answers to the more technical questions. No promises, but I'll try :-)

Thank you everyone for your comments so far, some really good ideas! I'm definitely feeling the tuxedo trend at the moment (and colourhappy's picture about looks like it might go with the counters) but would the Range then look out of place? Unfortunately, because of the temperature of the room, we've had to put a rug on the floor just to give us a little softness underfoot - so it doesn't really feature in our scheme plan. love all your mock ups celerygirl, really helpful! I really like all the variations on green, but the husband isn't so keen, but I'll show him all the others to see if that sparks anything. All the doors have weird latches on instead of handles, so next it'll be deciding on what to replace them with! thanks all

We just did this for our island. It is 8 feet (96 inches) long. The overhang is 15” at the edges and 24” in the center. I love the curve.

I don't care for curves in an island. why not just keep it straight? it's barely 8'. It's not that long.

These are all islands in the 8' region. not one is arched.

overhangs at 13-15" are fine. Just depends how you're building the island.

I had an arch on the island in my last home. It was so gradual that I probably should have just had a straight countertop. I just built a new home and the island is rectangular. I never considered an arch in the new home because this seems like a more dated look. 20-30 years ago, a curve here and there were coveted in design, but now it seems like the trend is to square things off.

I don't like curves but if you and your family will be eating at the island often, the curve is nice so you're not all in a straight line.
