Design Dilemma Kitchens

kitchen hardware dilemma

Without going into a long explanation as to why, 😊 would it be okay to have pulls on my top cabinets and drawers, and knobs on the bottom cabinets?

It’s your kitchen, do what you want. Typically, I like pulls on drawers and knobs on doors, but no hard and fast rules when designing a place for you.

If you take the 290 unit off the back run and island, I think that would be sufficient? As you've got kids I think a banquette seat would be ideal for family games, homework, crafts etc. Banquettes are around 60cm, table 90cm so that leaves 113cm which I think is more than sufficient both visually and practically as it's the same gap I have behind my kitchen table. Choose chairs that push under and consider the table legs carefully depending on the number of chairs wanted, pedestal tables often work. I would however take the sink off the island and maybe install a prep sink instead so the back run would be DW, sink, bin, induction hob (I'd integrate the oven personally). Is the shower room a must? It seems quite a trek to reach there with the number of doors unless there was a way to extend the 2nd front door forward and create access from the hall there. Also wondering if you'd considered removing the wall between snug and the old kitchen? It may make the area more useable rather than trying to fill the old kitchen

Hi! The key thing when you're designing a kitchen is to make sure you have enough worktop space in between the hob and the sink - that tends to be where you do the majority of the prep work, so you need to be able to wash things, chop things and then get them into a pan easily. So don't worry too much about a triangle - instead focus on that workspace and the flow of food from cupboard / fridge, to worktop where it is quick and easy to wash and prep and then move to cook... Hi there and thanks for your reply and the drawing! I had thought of the double sided fireplace option but I’m not sure what’s going to be needed structurally to make that happen - one builder said I wouldn’t need steels but my architect has said I’d need new structural calcs… The utility is currently only 1.6 x 1.04m and there’s a boiler in the corner so it’s a bit tight, hence the suggestion to make it bigger. The other alternative would be to leave it as is and build a utility cupboard on the landing ( plenty of space to put one in but again, architect has discouraged so it’s put me off a bit)

Hi Rhys, Hope you have made some decisions, regarding this project that will suit the way you will use and utilise this space. Have you thought about a central island which: - Could be customised and tailored to match your kitchen cabinets as well as the dimensions of the space (slimline) - Is moveable (and lockable once placed centrally in the kitchen area) and could be neatly stored on the wall (as pictured). Take into account the opening of the cupboards on the back wall opposite (you would have to move the central island to accommodate this request! - In addition it could be moveable that slots and locks under the breakfast bar area, with a narrowing to one side to accommodate two breakfast bar chairs (or as suggested on the posts a breakfast bar on the wall mounted in the area near the wine rack back wall) - Ask Wren: to provide a few variations on the colour cabinet design - so you can obtain a feeling of how a lighter colour cabinet would feel in the space also!
