Can antique furniture fit in with modern furniture?
Comments (19)I agree with shars55 that there is nothing more boring than all new furniture, and kmlt that an excellent decorating style strategically incorporates antiques into a modern setting., and with marywashington that beautiful furniture goes with anything. Shars55 says it all in noting that our homes should be filled with things we love, not just perfectly matched furniture. A gallery-like white setting is indeed a perfect style to highlight and appreciate your favorite antiques and family heirlooms. I've not yet had an opportunity to work on such a wonderful project, but one of our projects which I personally like the most is a new build traditional style home which strategically incorporated what I thought was just the right number of antiques throughout the home - Mountain Forest Chateau in Shanghai China. Funny, but we had to import all of the new furniture back into China. Even though it was all made in China in the first place, almost all of the good furniture was (until very recently) strictly for export! Hence the need for the round trip. Fortunately, we already had all of the Chinese antiques we needed.. http://www.houzz.com/projects/594014/Design-Project---Mountain-Forest-Chateau---Shanghai-China---Green-Antiques...See MoreLight fitting
Comments (9)Hello Ashley, I very much like eclectic style! As you know as well, this lamp wouldn't really fit in but as headers13 said it depends what else are you going to have, how your decoration will be like, colour, etc. I can also imagine mixing the accessories a bit, that fits in in eclectic style but it's up to you. Personally I would go for a new one, perhaps I would recycle the old one. StJames Design Interiors...See MorePainting fitted wardrobes?
Comments (62)Hello fhparis I painted my 1980's fitted dark brown wardrobes a year ago. I was able to remove a shelf which i used to practice on and to get an idea of the finish i could achieve. Or indeed if i could do it. Your wardrobes are lighter in colour which is a plus. I mentioned the products i used in an earlier post. Dont underestimate how long it will take to do. I think i applied 3 undercoats and at least 3 top coats. It was well worth the effort and cost a fraction of buying new wardrobes. The pics show 2 sets of painted wardrobes. Best of luck with your project...See MoreCan pvc sliding doors ever look good?
Comments (19)Hi Justin, thank you for taking the time to reply to our query. It is difficult to compare systems because Deceuninck have not published very much technical information about that specific product on their website, but whilst in general terms uPVC may be able to perform fractionally better for U-values than aluminium (it depends on the system), our experience is that with slide and swing doors the weather rating (water tightness, air permeability and wind loading) tend to be much lower. I would also query the information you were given about security. The reason I say that is I cannot find any reference to their slide & swing doors having been tested to PAS24 standards (Building Regs Doc Q) or Secured by Design award standards. The technology of slide and swing doors is developing quickly, but it is starting from nearly 25 years behind bifold doors so will take some time to catch up - that said they are moving along quickly and in certain circumstances offer an alternative to bifold doors. Good luck with your project!...See Morelormer
