Please HELP! Decorating the Living Room...
Comments (20)Thank you everyone for your great ideas! Actually, the room is not as dark as you think - the window is east facing, and we do get a good deal of sunshine through it... I think the pictures don't do the room justice. I do agree, dark furniture does make it seem very dull though. OK, here is what I am thinking at the moment... Unfortunately, the sofa does not fit quite right againt the opposite wall, neither does the love seat by the window (I've measured everything up and the sofas are of the wrong sizes). I'd like to replace the love seat with a couple of chairs (as the love seat is quite chunky, and does dominate the room as you walk in), but I can't justify spending the money on that just yet :( I am planning to buy a bigger rug (thank you for the suggestion, ren2513), I do love the white/cream as we have now, but will go for something with a bit more colour through it, and definitely replace the coffee table with a bright ottoman (thinking something along these lines at the moment http://www.marksandspencer.com/oval-button-footstool/p/p22344378001 colour Measham,Ochre)... And I'd like to move the existing rug behind the love seat. I'd also like to either match the wall paper or a few pictures on the wall to the ottoman (colour-wise) for some continuation. The ceiling lamp shade will be replaced with something a bit more original (this was fitted in a rush when we moved in, with no thought behind it!) All the speakers will go, as I don't think they look right in the room, and will be replaced with more descrete ones :) We are keen to replace the TV stand with Skovby TV unit and a display cabinet (in white oak), so a similar idea to what was suggested by Sauve :) thank you! Haven't decided on the 'behind the love seat' arrangement just yet. Thanks again for the suggestions everyone :)...See MoreNeed help on Paint for Kitchen & Living Room
Comments (2)Might be time to call in someone to help onsite - F&B have colourists who visit - as do Laura Ashley and then there's a whole host of independent designers - the main issue, I believe, when you want to get a look that's the same in both rooms - is the light ... you probably will need two shades of the same colour - one lighter for the darker room and one darker for the lighter room - then they should give the same tonal feel from one room to the next ( speaking from experience in my own home - I'm a planning geek not a colourist !) I think that little Greene do shades of the same colours - and obviously dulux do - ie choose from the same paint sample card - but if you really can't find the right shade - I'd strongly suggest you ask for someone to come to see what light/dark situation you have and they can advise accordingly ! It will be worth the investment!!...See MoreNeed help with decorating living room
Comments (1)Depending on how much work you wanted to do and how much you've got in your budget there are lots of options available to you. It looks like you've got a great ceiling height so you've got lots of wall space to play about with. I'd pick a feature wallpaper with some gold in it and probably a pale, cream coloured background. This will work with your flooring and with the sofas you brought from your previous property and it'll keep the room bright. Because you've got so much wall space you could also create a gorgeous gallery wall. It doesn't have to be expensive if you use postcards, personal photos and posters etc. If you go for all black and white pictures you can play around with different styles and colours of frames but if you have some colourful, mixed images I'd keep to black or white frames and have some consistency that way. These are just guidelines for quite a curated look but if your tastes are a little more eclectic then go wild! If you've got room in your budget you could also add more interest and textures through a large floor rug, cushions, and curtains. Choose shades that complement or clash with your chosen wallpaper. I hope this helps!...See MoreNeed help decorating Living Room
