Flooring from front of house through to kitchen/dining area
Comments (1)Hi - Karndean and Amtico are similar. Both come out to about £40 per sq metre laid. If anything Amtico is slightly more expensive. The fitting cost will allow for levelling the floor which can be an issue if you have taken up floor tiles before and the floor is very uneven or if vinyl was glued down as all the adhesive has to be scraped off. If you decide on any wood effect strips make sure the line of the strips maximises the visual impression from front to back with the strips going front to back not side to side. Karndean is easy to clean but does scratch if you drag chairs across it. At the entrance door allow for a mat to avoid scratches from dirty shoes at the entrance. Karndean has loads of different contemporary wood options. Avoid choosing dark colours 'because it won't show the dirt'. Choose a colour that creates a feeling of space - dark colours never do that....See MoreI'm looking forward to moving my kitchen fro back to front of house

Comments (10)I agree with Jonathan, it depends on so make different things about your property including light levels, its location, window views, how you use the space, etc. I've always thought that kitchens should be at the back and don't like some new-build houses locally where you can see straight into the kitchen from the street. However, when we renovated our property, we put the kitchen at the front. This was in a new extension so new drains had to be put in anyway rather than moving old ones. The front of our house it quite high off the ground whereas the back is closer to the garden. We're also at the end of a cul-de-sac and set back from the road so no-one can see in to the kitchen. If our living space was at the front, we wouldn't have had much in the way of views as we'd only see tree tops from a seated position. Also, at the front of the house, we have the sun in the morning which I like first thing in the morning for breakfast and then the sun is at the back in the afternoon which works well for seating and dining. So think carefully about what would work for you in your house rather than where a kitchen 'should' be....See MoreAdvice please- turning the back of our house into the front
Comments (13)Morning! What a great house! Older properties were often added to over time, and sometimes the most beautiful entrance wasn't at the front, as the more attractive aspect was through a manicured garden...equally you would have the day to day access (which we tend to use more these days), and the fancy imposing entrance reserved for special occasions....confusing! In short, I think you should design it to be sympathetic to the architecture and history, but to suit your needs. We use multiple cars and park outside our front doors because carry our own shopping, the Victorians didn't! I think you need to consider the elevations as much as the internal plans, and develop a design in 3D to really understand the benefits you get from various options. I would be delighted to help if you want some professional expertise from both an Architectural and Interior Design perspective. Would you like a half hour initial interior design consultation for some friendly one-to-one advice? We have a couple of slots each week for £125+vat. The consultation includes a friendly video chat to talk through your space and discuss your project ideas and needs. I follow up the video call with digital moodboards for a room or specific aspect like your exterior view tailored to your budget, plus a layout suggestion. I also give you a call to catch up! All the best, Christine...See MoreBathroom & Kitchen Planet Stirling Ltd
