Hi Mortimer Blake, I see what you mean when it comes to classic style cabinets. Perhaps you need something more modern. How about open shelving (like below)? You could either go for built-in cabinets or freestanding. I would love to have these in my living room but due to space, don't think I can keep them tidy enough! One day though!

Hi, I had the same issue in a lovely old Victorian terrace I used to live in. I actually bought a sofa from Furniture Village that we could not get into the house. I'm sure this sounds like a foolish purchase :-) but I had measured before placing the order and in theory it seemed like it would fit. On delivery day however....there was no way they could get it into the room, there was just not the turning space in our tiny hallway to get it into the lounge, so it got as far as the hallway and back out again!! Panicking I called Furniture Village, who said they have a specialist upholsterer who would break the sofa down and re-build it in the desired room. If we used their recommended guy, it would not affect my warranty on the furniture either. I think it cost me about £120. It was quite disconcerting watching him basically take a hand saw to my brand new sofa, but true to his word he rebuilt it as good as new in my lounge. The sofa is now 8 years old and still looks like new.... I even used him again to reverse the whole process to get it out of the house and rebuild for my new home a couple of years ago :-) I'm not sure if all sofas can be dismantled and rebuilt in this way, or if any other stores partner with someone who can do this though. I probably would be nervous to buy a sofa with this process in mind, but as I had already created the problem by buying it, it seemed worth a shot!

Thank you, this would have been perfect had the fire pit tables width been around 90cm. We are ok with the table block access to the left hand door of the french doors as in the future we will be having sliders or bi-folds. Thinking about it more, we could have it on the right hand side of the patio instead although it will some what restrict access to the single door into the garden...

My suggestion is to turn the lights off, remove one of the seat cushions and photograph it in the light. The top photo is looks red grey and the next one yellow grey. Nether Red is a beautiful new colour from Little Greene, a muted brown red that could look good with your floor. Certainly if your sofa contains red as mink suggests, it may work.
