kitchen windows boring
We had updated our kitchen a few years ago, but I feel like the eating area and the windows over the sink seem boring. I don't want to close up the windows, but what do I do without it also looking outdated? Do I place window cornice on all windows? Do I spice up the eating area instead? Not sure what to do to make the area look cozier.

Comments (4)Hi. Given your preferred style I might look at a venetian plaster effect wallpaper or similar as it won't close the room in. This one is from designers guild and has metallic elements.If you have the room (hard to tell from pic) you could add an old wooden bench at the end of the bed just to add interest with the rug. If you change the light then maybe a chandelier of sorts. A large vase of flowers or stems one side of the bed as per last pic. I'd add the interest with cushions and throws on the bed in different patterns and textures in your preferred colours. Perhaps a juju hat on the ŵall (although they're not cheap!) or a collection of hats and art. Comments (15)Analysis first: 1) with a window on each wall the walls need to be kept light or there will be "glare" from too much contrast. 2) the cupboards are a yellow tinted white but the floor and worktop seem to be a red tinted white. This is a clash and whats fundamentally displeasing. 3) the cupboard handles are too fussy and contrasty. Again displeasing. Solution: Walls in a white with a hint of red such as Farrow and Ball Roman white. Dark cupboard joinery as Patrinas image above. You can get them sprayed with any colour you like by a specialist spray paint firm, ideally off site, with extremely durable paint, colour matched (match to real painted colour samples, not printed swatch colours as they are inaccurate) Bronze cupboard handles, taps and light switches Another option is to replace the worktop and use the same colour for cupboards and walls, with contrasting elements, as the kitchen in this link below (click on the images to run through to see the kitchen specific ones. Comments (5)Egyptian Cotton is a very nice neutral and I have it in my bedroom! You’re right, it needs colour and art on the walls. I wonder if introducing some colour by painting the wall behind the bed in another colour may be a good start. Navy is a lovely rich tone that will create a cosy feel, which you can then accessorise with cushions and a throw on the bed. I’ve shared a photo where the owners have used a russet tone in the accessories. Comments (11)Looks like the majority is for window and my partner really wants one so just got to decide on size, love the photo and given the inspiration to sort that area out, we are replacing the paving slabs and won't go all the way to the wall so can plant some shrubs and maybe even a small tree to help make it look prettier, thanks for all comments, great forum as usual - onto my next dilemma which will be posting soon, many thanks all for taking time to reply, Lawrence...See MoreSue MIchael

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoThe space needs color. I suggest replacing the dining pendant for something with more pizzazz. Perhaps colorful placemats. I wouldn’t bother with putting any coverings on the window(s). You have total privacy, and you wouldnt want to block any of the light. And, yes, changing out the dining set for something a few shades lighter, would help. Fabric backed chairs would add texture and color.

2 years agoThanks for all the tips. A few suggested Roman shades. Or even faux Roman shades. I photoshopped a few choices. Not sure what color to go with, lighter darker fabric? What do you guys think? It's not perfectly photoshopped. I hung them high under the ceiling like someone suggested.

2 years agoA couple things to make the transition between the inside and outside more harmonious:
--You have dark floors and a dark dining set. Either paint your chairs white or paint the table. You need contrast to light up the corner.
@Sheila Rowan suggested that you do more with the outside, tiles, plants, colorful pots. The boring vibe you're getting is partially coming from the view.
--Since you have kids, and kids don't mind bench seating, I think this space begs for banquettes, either built-ins (if you put bench on a lid, you'll have a lot of storage) with cushions you can order from Etsy. Bench should be white with colorful cushions. Wayfair sells armless dining benches, so that's another possibility.
White tulip table or some other white round table + dark chairs you have. Round tables give a cozy feeling to angled corners.
