Utility/shower room split
Hi all,
Is there enough space to split this study into a shower room and a utility room (preferably utility room to have an external door)?
I've tried and seem to end up with a lot of wasted corridor space.
If we move the downstairs WC (and include a shower) we can have a better sized front porch.

Comments (21)Update:- I'm looking at whether we can move the wood burner so we could put the dining area where the lounge is, which would increase the bathroom/utility room inside the house by another 4'4 wide x 7'1 . Also means we don't have to build a side extension just for the extra porch etc thus saving us money! Fingers crossed it can work, but this is the space that we would have to play with to split the bathroom and utility now. I've allowed for more hallway space where it recesses to the right to accommodate coat/shoe storage How would you split this down now? Comments (10)Assuming the plumbing can't go all the way into the porch (and runs along the left), I imagined this: Instead of opening up the complete kitchen-dining wall (probably loadbearing), enlarge the current doorway and have a 'window frame' installed to open things up. No separate utility in this though. And is the door on the side the only door to your garden? I've simply added one, though french doors in the dining would most likely add more value. And with some extra cash you could open up the dining-lounge wall too. And close off some of the hallway to gain storage space under+near the stairs....See More

2 years agoI think that if you start trying to build up corridors and full height walls to split the study you will end up with 2 pokey areas. Instead what you could do is incorporate the two roles for the room together. I assume when you say utility you possibly mean washing machine, tumble dryer etc and extra storage. As long as you have some lovely cabinets to hide away all the storage, cleaning equipment etc as much as possible it could still look good. If you wanted you could have a screening wall (you need to see what the space is like once all drawn out), ie not full height/width to put the wash basin against which could block the view to any unsightly machinery if not behind cabinets. Example photo here, imagine there are gaps either side of the wall.
But the lack of complete walls would make it feel really spacious. I would advise the same flooring throughout this room and the kitchen to accentuate flow! You would have plenty of space to put your outside door in probably the far corner of the side wall to the left and you still have space to put your shower and loo on this side wall. Obviously brick up the lounge door to make the space work. Hope that makes sense!
