kitchen floor ideas to compliment dark parquet in joining sitting room

Hello! I need some idea please of kitchen flooring that will compliment the parquet floor (that we love) we have in sitting room that joins to our new kitchen diner via arch. No porcelain tile esq as my other half is against it!!

Karndean is a luxury vinyl tile- it is super hardwearing, great for a kitchen and if you can find a similar shade to your existing living room floor helps have a feeling of continuity.

Thanks Colour Happy. Plasterer has been in already but only plastered where needed so I'm assuming that means we don't need to plaster behind wall paper (some of which had to be removed for the rewiring) and Painter seems happy enough to do remainder of filling/smoothing walls but thanks for the tip, I'll definitely check again with them. Re sisal, no dogs but small kids at home so need to stick to softer/more standard carpet!

Hello @margaretrmiller I'm on here super rarely now suggesting on the dilemmas, but I dare say there's a reason for the height being as it is, re oven and microwave unit, but haven't read all the suggestions or reasonings above. On the island with hob. You can do one of two things or both. You could either extend the top so you sit further away from the hob. Or you could situate a downdraft extractor which would take care of splashes, any possible burns/scalds due to proximity and additionally deal with extraction, thus leaving you with an open vista to the kitchen. In terms of colour. My suggestion is to perhaps lighten the base colour on the breakfast bar so it blends with the kitchen more, rather than stand out on it's own as it were. You could then add granite accessories and or other bits of marble. Woods and warm earthy accessories. Keep the flooring lighter to compliment the colour palette you have chosen- A mid range colour would be suitable. In summer having a dark floor might not detract from your needs, but consider how light changes, both during the day and equally the seasons. If you have trees outside, you could well find you have this offset naturally for you, as loss of leaves create a bit more light in winter. At any rate, some ideas to consider when choosing colours. Hi All, Thanks for the really great feedback and ideas, particularly the lining paper idea, we've been doing this over the weekend, initially we looked at a range of paints from Valspar (other brands are also available!!), originally we were going towards doing the feature walls in a pink alabaster, with maybe a shade of green on the other walls, I have attached some pictures of the room with the lining paper up, unfortunately some of them dont portray the true colours very well due to the light and the camera. First two photos is the side wall showing the Valspar Asian Silk, which is described as a soft green, it looks lighter when applied to the paper than the tester shows, personally I think its too light, and that the Valspar Perennial Pleasure might be a better shade, especially when mixed with the Nordic Moss sofa. The third picture shows the feature wall, this has a number of colours, starting from the top left we have Toasted Biege, bottom left is Silver Mauve , in the middle we have Peaceful Taupe, and finally Nutmeg Dust. After looking hard at the colours, we are now veering towards maybe doing the whole room in a single colour scheme, as I stated earlier we may look at going for a darker shade of green that the Asian Silk to contrast with the Moss colour sofa and the oak effect flooring, we already have a medium sized chandelier and I'm in the process of buying a Gold mantle wall mirror to sit above the fireplace. Christine enquired about the room size, its approx. 4 x 4 meters, and there is a bay window, in December the existing green curtains will be replaced with lourve style shutters for the full length. Thank you. Not wanting to match it in but have something contrasting…. I think if we tried to match it and it wasn’t quite right it would look terrible! 🙃

The image shows two slightly different floors and I don’t think that looks terrible.

However the advice stands to consider an LVT such as Karndean for practical reasons you need a hardwearing floor in a kitchen and since it isn’t brittle like ceramic tiles, isn’t cold like stone, it’s say to clean with a steam mop meaning no need for chemicals, and it’s easy to make a repair if you ever managed to damage it (which isn’t easy).
