Help! What colour carpet should I get in my hallway?!

I've just had my hallway painted - the left hand wall going up through the stairs is a feature wall in an emerald green, the rest is magnolia. I'm stuck on what colour carpet to get for the stairs!

It can't be anything too light as I have a dog, but I have no idea what darker colours would suit against the green? I thought about either a dark or light Grey but I'm not sure!
