help last minute decision blue stairwell vs a more neutral grey?

Hi we are getting our house repainted and are finalising paint. We are using cornforth white for the living room and bedrooms and we’re thinking of slow blue for the hallways, the hallway goes from ground floor to the second floor loft and the stairwell to the loft has a roof light at the top. It’s not a very big house so the stairwell and landing is not huge. We thought blue as we wanted something different than grey and wanted something that would hide finger marks from kids. Our decorator thinks it’s too dark? Any thoughts, slow blue too dark for a hallway?

Looks like an old thread but l'd like to comment anyway. Leave it as is. This is a great Mediterranean look. The grout is fine - a white grout would look rather blank here, and l'm so glad the mirror is simple and you placed it on a simple wood backing. The concrete basin stand adds an understated industrial touch whilst the style of the porcelain fittings is perfectly timeless and l like taps too. The shower sure does need a glass screen to keep water from raining all over the place! You could make the blue pop out further by using a combination of grey and two blues in your towels. Well done for this brave success!

When you say your wall colour is “strong white” do you mean Farrow and Ball Strong White? Looks lovely. I’ve got the same dilemma-Dove Grey units in an east facing room which gets not much light. I’ve tried a million samples and can’t find that “right one”. Thanks

Also the bath filler is very high up but we have a fixed screen to the side and it sits right over the bath waste so doesn't cause an issue as far as we can tell. I like the idea of putting a shower in there. Could be useful even just for spraying down mucky dogs, football boots etc. You could have the door opening into the hall to give you a bit more room in there. I would also consider maybe putting the door on the diagonal wall so you have room one side for the sink and the other side for the shower. Out of your various plans I liked the one (I think it was the second one) with the largest diagonal wall.

If it's a dark colour then it will darken the space but it might be cosy and dramatic, but it will be darker and so the lighting needs to work with that. The issue with blues is that a lighter version of a blue changes the character so much and so it can go from cosy to cold. A mid value colour may be better. Little Greene paints actually give the LRV of the paint which is how much light it relfects. I have read that LRV around the 60's is a good bet for spaces which are of average light levels. And don't forget, Farrow and Ball usually photograph their colours in beautiful period houses which are usually drenched with natural light.
