Small master bedroom makeover
Comments (43)You may want to reconsider keeping curtains as well as the shutters, as they don't keep out all the light, particularly as you said the room is bright & south facing. Especially in the summertime when it gets lighter so much earlier. From someone who's been awake since 5am because of this problem! Note to self: must get round to choosing curtains! Also, F&B cornforth white is very pale. We've used it on the interior of our windows, but I think it would be a little boring if we used it on the walls, too close to white, especially in a room as bright as yours. A friend with very good taste recommended Little Greene's French Greys. It's a lovely warm grey & there are several different tones. Don't be scared of even the darkest one as even that isn't too strong on the walls! Our master bedroom used to be at the south facing front of a 30's house too, but after rebuilding we're now at the back of the house. Although I love looking out over the garden, I do miss that glorious sunshine you get! (Although not at 5 in the morning!). Have fun deciding, and remember you can always repaint if you really hate anything!...See MorePaint colour for north facing bedroom
Comments (6)Thanks Kathy, think we will go with Gentle Fawn. Tried Nutmeg White and Almond White but they looked a bit grey looking so hoping Gentle Fawn will be warmer looking. Too many choices! Am having a beige carpet, so just have to choose curtain colour now. The window wall will be pink so don’t know which colour to match or whether to introduce a third colour and try and match it with duvet cover. .I quite like a soft green colour but may be too cool in north facing room? Comments (3)Many thanks Minnie and Forzaitalia. Great link Minni, Im keen to quell those orange tones from the floor, which I sanded, stained and mat varnished around 15 years ago, and which has stood up incredibly well to teenagers tramping in and out [my daughter s room]. Its now time to smarten up this lovely room and I agree that by softening the wood boards with a white wash, I can retain some warmth as everything else is cool. Im doing the floor last , having already sanded and prepped so have time to consider if I go opaque or transparent. The room height is pretty standard at 2.3 M The paneling and doors are beautifully crafted oak, have plenty more about this rambling pile, and whilst I love them in their original finish they do dampen the light in the cottagy part of the house. The bedrooms all have the same style doors and lead onto a large bright landing which can take the darker oak look of the doors so whatever I do, Im only going to do it on the bedroom side. Forzaitailia you are right, although I would relish exercising artistic licence with a low key faded geometric pattern, its going to be too busy . A rug.. theres an option! I have painted just the bay walls and woodwork today and the colours look gentle and elegant. tested on the remaining bedroom walls to check how the light works with the Cornforth White and it looks great. So with many thanks to you both for your advice, a more paired down approach is the way forward....See MoreWhite walls for bedroom?
