Does this shower tray look right?

Got a shower tray 1200 x 800, thought the drain was going to be on the short edge but turned out it's on the long edge. OK fine. Plumbers have installed it like this. Shower is going on left hand wall as you look at the photo. Does the tray look right or should the drain be by the wall rather than next to the enclosure? Thoughts much appreciated thanks! (sorry for poor photo)

It’s placed like that so you can get to the pipework easily if you ever had to in the future

Thank you all so much for your input. Really do appreciate it. (AS - unfortunately the loo has to be on the side nearest the riser that holds the waste pipes - but thank you for taking the time to do the plan). I should probably have mentioned that the shower will be a rainfall one and the pressure isn't great - so it's not a really powerful shower that would definitely flood. What I am looking into now is perhaps a slightly recessed shower tray - harder for water to go up right?! rather than ugly built up sides. A bit like this image bit recessed shallow tray.

ED re the screen forming the water barrier at the front, I'm trusting the builder. I didnt ask specifically for a flat tray so I presume he's fitted a lot like it and is happy with how they work. Any issues he'd have to sort it out so it's not in his interest to choose something that doesn't work. He's done a lot of work for me already and is quick to argue with me if I suggest anything unworkable. I've noticed the drain hole is huge compared to a bath, I guess to prevent water build up underfoot. I'll update once the plumbing has been done and the screen is done but it'll be a while as I'm saving for the next phase!

Non slip shower tray

My shower tray is 6 years old and like new. It is non slip but not completely so. Of course we use toiletries and cleaning products as everyone does! I’ve noticed that some very non slip items do not clean up well as the texture traps the dirt. For example my non slip porcelain tile patio catches the dirt and is very difficult to clean. I would email the company’s CEO (don’t bother with customer service) with photos and say you want a replacement. An item should be fit for purpose which the tray certainly isn’t.

Ideally the next shower tray will have the drain on the short edge.

Looks a bit awkward - you may stub your toes! When I bought mine I was advised to buy one with the drain at the back.

Yeah I thought that's what we were getting but it was really badly misrepresented in the brochure - the picture was of a square and not rectangular tray with the drain at the back; however for the rectangular tray apparently the drain comes on the long edge. IMO it's a silly design. I don't think we have time to change the tray now but I did wonder if it could at least be reversed so the drain faces the wall ...

One thing I've noted on your photo is that there doesn't appear to be a seal around the edge of the tray. It's basically super-duper sticky back plastic with a skirt that your wall covering then goes on the inside of, to prevent leaks. All our trades swore by this stuff. The one we used was called classi-seal.

While I understand the logistics of the drainage and it being convenient it would look better if the plug hole was at the back as opposed to the front. Mine is on the side.

I have a corner shower pod and the drain is in middle at door. Basically your position. Haven’t stubbed toe and it is easy to clean it as there is no stretching.

Ours is same as yours too and has not caused any problems.

Thank you all. We spoke with the plumber and he said access was his reason for putting it that way - and I think we can live with it. I'm probably more annoyed with the way the drain was depicted in the brochure and won't go for that brand again (it was also delayed!) Very grateful for everyone's comments.
