Hi Helen,

I am glad you like them. They aren't actually slips but part of a masonry wall that was built for the side return extension. The bricks used were by Wienerberger called Marziale. I don't believe they do a 'slip' version but the slips could be cut from hole bricks. I hope that helps! https://www.wienerberger.co.uk/product-range/bricks/marziale.html

Thank-you One Plan, yes, I agree, plain glass might be easiest, presumably toughened for behind a gas hob?, but I do love colour and the handmade slightly rustic feel feel, so wondering if anything more decorative might work?, although I can see the point for keeping the bricks on show behind glass. Planning terracotta floor tiles, beech, red, cream and possibly copper accents, but at the moment the space is still being built!

I've got rough quartzite behind my hob and it is fine, but I have a 12cm gap from the hob to the wall with a raised shelf. It seems enough to make a huge difference to keeping the wall behind clean. I do put a tea towel behind when using oily things and then chuck it straight in the washing machine. I wouldn't have it without the raised shelf. I have sealed them and the grout and would do the same again.

Shan Hi Nice visualisation. If we are talking about real brick slips that are cut from real bricks they need to be bonded to the wall and then the joints need to be pointed with mortar as one would do with real bricks. This can be quite a messy exercise and is essentially a semi wet trade Ideally one would apply the slips before you fit the kitchen, that way worktops and units can be templated against the finished surface. One should also consider taking the slips all the way down to the floor, if you want to future proof the design and if you have any open backed units. If one attempts to do it the other way around you would need to protect everything as mortar can be very unforgiving and gets every where. If you were going to apply a finish afterward or to an existing kitchen I would consider tiles as opposed to brick slips above the worktop. Also in terms of sequencing of the works the kitchen units and work tops are one of the last things to go in. So it makes a lot of sense to fit the slips before the units go in, whilst all the other messy work is going on. It's hard to find ones that are london based! These don't sell slips but offer a cutting service for their reclaimed bricks have you tried getting samples at all? The company on the 2nd link appear to get good reviews and have a number of case studies.
