help! where to place fire and tv!

I have recently purchased a property but I am having some trouble placing furniture.

There is a window in the centre of the room; a door to the right; and what looks like a blocked up fire place. Ideally, I’d want my sofas (not yet purchased - thought about corner sofa or two singular sofas), or at least one, against a wall. I’m not sure this is possible. I’d also like to explore keeping the original fire placement.

I think I will need a small dining table to be squeezed in (or at least something that can come out if required) as there is no dining table.

I can’t see how I can do anything other than placing the tv against the wall to the left of the blocked up fire and window (if looking at it) and then angling the sofa(s) in the middle of the room, to almost box it off. I could have a dining table at the back right (if looking at the window). I feel this then takes away the openness of the room though.

Any ideas appreciated!

What are the dimensions of the room and how many do you wish to seat for sofas and dining?

i assume that’s a hearth to the left of the window? Is there a chimney on the outside of the house? just curious as I’ve never seen a Victorian fireplace in that position before. I’m wondering if the fire was opposite the entrance door, as you’d expect, as you can see some shorter planks in the centre of the room which look like replacements

I don't see how more furniture is going to solve your problem. It seems unclear, from the pictures posted, why you feel you have this either or situation. A proposed floor plan showing the new window size. would be useful I agree that it is a poor idea to put a tv over a fireplace. If the plan shows the seating it may be possible to put forward an alternative design solution.

We have been putting TVs above fireplaces for 15 years now! You should leave at least 100cm clearance from the top of the fireplace and if the wall is thin, add heat insulation behind the TV. I wonder if the tv went in front of the window….not ideal perhaps …but then two sofas, one on the right wall by the door and the other opposute the window, so as not to block your radiator,..corner lamp table.

Then a fold down dining table againsr the left wall which can be pulled out into the centre of the room when there are more of you freeing up the option to open the fireplace …if the dimensions allow

Tv could also go above the mantlepiece on the wall besidevthe window in this configuation
