What colour should I paint my front door and garage - 1930s House
Comments (43)I think your instinct is spot on - the grey does not go with your lovely house at all! You said yourself, 'the grey craze', why follow the herd? Perhaps you should question why you want a 'contemporary colour' instead of one of the many choices which will enhance your beautiful period house. You don't see lovely pink Suffolk cottages, or the black and white half timbered houses characteristic of some areas daubed with grey because it's the latest fad....See MoreRe-model our 1930's detached house: can you help please?
Comments (8)To me the proportions of the windows don't look right. I don't think that the front face of the bay would've originally been one pane - I think there wouldn't been one or two vertical dividers. To improve the look of the house I would replace the windows with something that looks more in keeping. I would also re-render with a smooth render. I would either put the front door where the flat window is, or make more of an entrance of the for where it is. You don't say whether you use the driveway down the side of the house for a car. if not there are things you could do to make the existing entrance more appealing with a path, planters, etc....See MoreHow to make our tired 1930s terrace look pretty?
Comments (19)Not sure how it works in the UK but in France if you are changing the appearance of your house that is visible from the road, you need prior permission. This is to avoid people doing things that are completely out of keeping with the neighbourhood, whether rendering, paintwork, or windows. Here you would probably have to go with cream rendering and retain the tiling, in which case choose a colour for the front door that picks up or contrasts with the brick/rust colour. My own first priority for the outside would be to deal with the garden, which you are very lucky to have, to get things in before the winter. One idea would be to get rid of the tiny patch of grass and lay thick gravel (not attractive to cats) plus a retaining path, create a simple structure to hide your dustbins (and bikes?), and invest in a couple of huge pots with some permanent planting and spring bulbs....See MoreHelp changing windows on 1930s detached house
Comments (7)Personally the darkest I would go would be a mid grey tone - definately not black. You could also consider some lovely pastel tones as well? Lovely house btw!...See Morenicola Mehio
