A 'nothing' fireplace: what should I do?

We are eventually planning to open this wall on to a deck but what do I do with this weird fire place in the meantime. And any options for that stained glass window?

Hang a painting in front of window to hide it if it is not to your taste. Painting the window frame the wall colour will help disguise it. Or pull off the window frame and plaster in front of the window for a temp fix. The carpet prob stops at front of hearth. If there is no chimney and it is a fake facade you could look at removing it all and placing furniture over the missing carpet or hearth. So many options. Painting the bricks… Depends on your budget and time frame.

If you just want something until you open up the wall, you could clad the fireplace, if you don’t love the window , you could either remove and plaster over or leave and cover with a large artwork or mirror, it’s really how much you want to do before your renovation, some of the new vertical cladding would certainly bring a more modern look. You could class to the ceiling and make it a feature wall. If you are going to use the fireplace make sure you get advice re cladding, but if it’s a faux fireplace you should be fine.

I think it's better suited to the top one. It's beautiful. I would paint it to make more of a feature and I would paint the central panels either side of the mirror the same as the main walls and the rest (including the mantelpiece) in a darker colour. Hope this helps.

Oh dear god why would you artex over a fireplace!? If you have a period property with the original fireplace - keep it! You are lucky! I curse the previous owners of my house for removing the original fireplaces.

I think the tiles make the room look authentic. With the new decor they seem to blend in. However I appreciate that the photo’s aren’t a close up of the tiles 😂. I still reckon you should spend the money on something else!

Hi HU-416843511, if you are looking to completely take the fireplace out as mentioned you would need to get this wall plastered. We would still recommend having a focal point so an updated style fireplace would still work in the room to help create a focal point within the room. If the fireplace is a faux fireplace, just rip it off the wall. Get a sheet of mdf or plywood and paint it into some abstract art until you are ready to make the opening.

either lean it on the wall or nail it on until then.

Remove the fireplace and install the door to the future deck in its place. A full width sliding door would probably fit in best with those windows. Just leave the door locked until the deck is built!

As a temporary low cost solution paint the bricks the same colour as the walls and hang a large painting over the stained glass window.
