Proposed kitchen extension
Comments (2)Hi Charlie - have you looked at handmade kitchens of Christchurch ? They do a fired earth type feel and you paint it yourself to what ever colour you fancy ? They aren't too far away (east Dorset )...See MoreAdvice please on proposed extension!
Comments (8)I think the downstairs plan looks good. Perhaps change the orientation of the dining table so it is parallel to the patio doors. My concern would be with upstairs. You have two bedrooms on the right which look to me like either could be master suites, but neither has an ensuite bathroom. If this works for your family set up, that is absolutely fine, but if you are thinking of selling in a few years, I think most buyers would expect the master bedroom to have an ensuite, rather than one of the smaller bedrooms. It is worth trying to think about the upstairs as a whole, rather than as "existing" and "extension", obviously budget, existing pipework and load-bearing walls etc allowing....See MoreWraparound Extension - Thoughts?
Comments (6)@katlucy and @CWD - great suggestions, thank you. "how about swapping the sofa area and the kitchen over" - I can't tell you how many times the design has flipped! The kitchen-end will get the most sun from early afternoon onwards, so that ended up being the final choice. That and the thought of the bedroom being off the kitchen feeling somewhat more like servants quarters than if it was off the seating area. Also the arrangement shown makes the most of the different views of the garden (that has an old tree as the centrepiece). The second vote on the hallway has got me thinking about that option and I can really see its merits. It's the difference between a hall and rooms branching off, versus the circle with flow from room to room. The internal through-room could be a formal dining room but is like to be used as a flexible space for exercise and as a VR 'holodeck'. As you suggest, moving the skylights closer to the darker openings will make a positive difference. Originally the plan was to have a large 'wow' lantern but I think the high ceiling and 7m of glass on the back will be a visual centrepiece, so the roof lights are more functional than decorative. From a construction point of view, I understand that it is easier to have thinner roof lights running in line with the timbers (at 90 degrees to the wall) rather than adding extra trimmers. Rather than square we could have 1m x 2m rectangles. You are right that having lighting, rather than rooflights, above the workspaces would be more useful. As the build is fast approaching we really need to fix our plans on the lighting front as well. Thanks again for your kind and very helpful suggestions....See MoreNeed help with layout of our proposed extension
Comments (4)Hi Suchi, Can't see all the info on the upload so difficult to make final recommendation, but it does look as though a compact utility is doable and probably desirable. We can certainly provide full 3-D designs & plans down to detailed concepts for kitchens, bathrooms, utilities etc, though this is a chargeable service. Please message if you wish an idea of costs. We may also be able to provide kitchen & bathroom units etc "supply only", even remotely - the Falkland Islands is the furthest we've had anything delivered! Below are a couple of images showing the power of our 3-D CAD systems rendering. Feel free to get in touch if we can assist. Caldicot Kitchens...See MoreNeeta S
