Any porch type ideas?

last year

We have just had our bungalow rendered and will be painting in due course. Next steps will be to put a undercover space back in as a bit of cover on a hot day or rainy day. It would be on the front of the house, overlooking the farm. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what could look nice, be cost effective and fairly easy to do? Probably asking a lot here! Any suggestions welcome 😀

Forgot to mention it gets very weathered at the front, not much protection so ideas would need to take this into consideration

I think it's safe to say that the crux of the matter is the 80's extension roof. If you're going to the trouble of a new extension then the roof needs to go and then both bits tied in properly. The doorway through to the back garden is too close to the Front door, and the roof is larger than that of the front door. They at the very least need to be identical sizes, or preferably under one roof the same pitch and proportions as that of the garage. The porch needs to be grander and centralised. I'm no expert plan drawer by any means, but i did a mock up of what i had in mind, the rest would be down to the architect and budget.

As you can see, we actually own a large portion of the drive to the rear which we would never use, and we have been told the neighbour is keen to own, so there is some negotiating to be done there, and hopefully we can take the garden in front of our property. I am wary of putting up fencing just to the side their door , as it could maybe spoil the appearance of the house as a whole, but then I think, why should they get all the glory? There would be added value to visually separating the two properties, for ourselves, but maybe not for them.

Thank you so much, Oana, also your husband and friend. I am going to trust them and take their advice that liming wax is not the best solution for the bench. Also, my thanks to all of you who tried to guess... I will ask our very knowledgeable painter-decorator what would be the best way to take care of this beauty and let you know. I’ll leave you now with a pic of our deck where I’ve just used some of the other things I found in the barn to “make it pretty” :))
