Comments (5)Best tip there is to CLEAN the kitchen. I'm far from being the best housekeeper but I'm amazed how proud people are of their new stove/hob/island chairs/microwave, yet the kitchen and items are grubby. Clean up + tidy away all those bits that have ended up in kitchen for no good reason, add in some new utensil holders/fruit bowls, hang up some larger hand utensils or remove them, put away all jam + marmalade jars or clean rhe outside + gather together in a small tray, replace chopping board or get one. Change tea-towels, or just use the clean untattered ones, ditto any table linen, place mats, coasters. Yep clean up + tidy up + tidy away first - then you'll see what'll work quickly + cheaply. My cleaning team asks €8 an hour and this includes windows (I have heard some companies do not, or they actually charge extra!!!), shutters, terrace, yard area, laundry, ironing, hauling out the recycling to a common area - light cleaning or very heavy cleaning, indoor or outdoor, all for the same €8. And they have a key to my house. They are now doing all my neighbors as well. I actually pay €10 an hour as they have to come a half hour and they are very flexible and are happy to come last minute weekends when possible. I do my own cleaning but this team does the heavy stuff (windows, shutters, cupboards, kitchen appliances, polishing the floor) every 10 days, so I am normally ready for drop in guests. Comments (26)Hi - how I envy you that big kitchen; mine is tiny. I went for a warm cream with a splashback in bright red. You could perhaps add bright red accessories? I would go for a slightly darker, warmer shade of the walls, I would put large, bright ornaments on top of the cupboards (I particularly like hens and roosters) - they do need to be big though, otherwise they'll get lost. I'm sure you're going to have a table and chairs; my choice would be light wood, round, and maybe brightly coloured chairs to contrast the black tiles. Or, you go opt for a corner seating arrangement with comfy upholstered seating and bright cushions. Plants are an absolute must for me and that corner, to the left of the door, is crying out for a beautiful palm.....that is, if you don't opt for the corner seating! I would then place my plant(s) at, or near, the end of your counter. There are some very realistic "fake" candles around now - I have two which I've put into Moroccan style lamps which are only about 10 - 12" high. One sits of the floor, the other on a small table; they're pretty through the day and at night they flicker and cast patterns on the walls.
