How do I strip a painted beam & stone fire place ?
Comments (2)Hi, you can use heatgun for it, it is very slow process but rewarding, you have to make sure that you not going to burn the wood, give a little heat and strip the paint off, or you can try paint remover.....See MoreBeams : paint or strip?
Comments (8)Hi Helen, However its done, trying to strip the beams is a long, messy and expensive project. Theres also no guarantee whats found under the paint is going to look substantially better (though I agree the black is too imposing at the moment). I would suggest first using white primer on them then painting them a pale soft greige/warm grey colour. Enough of a contrast to the walls that you still get to admire them as a feature but light enough to help keep the space feeling bright and relaxing. Something else you could also consider is installing some warm white led strip lighting on top of the lintel beams. These would face up to illuminate the cross beams and help reduce the gloomy shadows. I've tried to show how this could look in the mock up for you. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Flexible-Non-waterproof-Kitchen-Decoration-Lighting/dp/B00MHTNXRY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481108213&sr=8-1&keywords=warm+led+strip+lights...See Moredo i paint black beams white?
Comments (2)Hello, Shot-blasting (AKA sandblasting) the beams will bring back the natural warmth of the wood, which matches perfectly with the red brick, the natural tones within the wood once treated post blasting will bring a level of depth to the room, and brighten it up making the space feel larger too. The natural 'sandy' undertones of the wood will blend well with a country theme, and even a more contemporary scheme. Choosing to white wash/ totally repaint to white will certainly allow more light to reflect throughout the space, giving a brighter, airier feel to the room. It really depends on the scheme (look) you would like to go with. A country, classical warm homely feel would be better with the natural wood. A more contemporary or a more chic, luxury scheme may benefit more from the white. Think about what furniture/ accessories you have for the room, and how they will work with either the natural or white. I hope this was helpful.
