Windows Bedrooms Design Dilemma

seeking ideas for window behind bed

last year

We have a super king bed in a 3.3m x 3.4m bedroom with bed in front of window due to buoy in wardrobes and door to bathroom
The window behind the bed is flooded with light from street light outside
The side window is south facing and only opens one side
Looking for practical but pretty black out
As we can’t disguise the window behind the bed would like to consider making a feature of it.

Here’s some ideas for you - a combination of blinds and curtains for a behind the bed window, in whatever colour combinations/patterns you like.

A Life More Beautiful - I appreciate the advice for moving the rod. I'll give that a try. It shouldn't be much of an issue for the drapes as they are very close to floor length but are covered up by the bed and the rocker anyway. :). So there should be a gap between the rod & the top of the shades then? I think my husband assumed it should sit right on top. I've actually never heard of a pelmet. I'm off to check google! I thought the fairy lights were rather cute & the girls love them. Only a few dollars at ikea too. :)

Good afternoon Angela! First of all lovely colour for the wall and I like the contrast with the white, it's very elegant! As for the protruding wall it is indeed a little uneasy on the eye and Isidora's idea of having something loose in front of it could certainly work. I would even go beyond the hanging and go for a curtain along the wall that would then be straight from the window to the other side. It could be in the same colour as the walls if you are not keen on adding colour but it would bring something a little softer which is nice for a bedroom. In my experience making these kinds of decisions is best nearer the time - in other words, paint the room put your bed where you really want it and then see if your art work works. If it doesn't be ruthless - this room is different and may need a different treatment. Maybe in the space above the bed it would be better to have three smaller framed pieces for example. I know it's hard to give up on something when you really like it - but as previously commented - if it does not work in the bedroom could it go somewhere else? - hallway, downstairs toilet, dining room? Best of luck - its a lovely large room.

Marc - these are absolutely stunning sketches! Sadly, the opportunity to move our WC has passed, so we can’t put the the shower in that corner :( I’m back to two options: 1. Keep same layout but with a shorter, 1600mm bath and bespoke shower built onto the end (only really feasible if I can find a fabricator or bathroom designer to make this happen), and some storage / fitted furniture around the WC/sink - pros are the separation of the two / luxe factor, con is that there’s nowhere for the laundry baskets https://www.duravit.co.uk/products/all_series/happy_d2.com-en.html?product=3167994 2. Full-size bath with bespoke storage at end of bath (opposite the door), with laundry and towel storage, etc) - pros are that we maximise storage and have a full size bath, plus we could save costs around the WC / sink by skipping the additional furniture, cons... no separate shower... Same bath but 1700x750. I’m feeling kind of ambivalent at this point, but the builders are back and will be ripping out the old one soon so need to pull the trigger and get this stuff ordered! Final round of thoughts?

We’ve recently gone for French style curtain poles which curve back to the wall, preventing light seeping round the sides of the curtains. With blackout linings these are proving very effective, and look good too. A combination of blackout blinds and curtains is a good idea, whatever type of curtain pole one has.

This is ours, you can just see the wall fixing on one side, and the pole runs in one piece from there. I’ll try to get a picture of the rail itself tomorrow to show it more clearly. Angie
