Gable roof face material

Hello all, new to the forum.

Having a dilemma about what material/colour i should use on the front gable roof face. Im having white double glazed windows, but dont really want a white plastic white gable front end.

Any ideas what other materials/colours i can use.

Hi Victoria – thank you for your comment. We haven’t considered wood cladding, but I haven’t seen it around on neighbouring houses so I doubt planning would approve that. The other option we’ve considered is Hanging Tiles to match the roof, but the builder isn’t keen and I don’t like the extra cost – although if it keeps planning happy, I would prefer it to mismatching bricks!

I'm usually the one who differs so here goes:- The bungalow layout isn't great. The porch on the front ( presumably a late addition ) looks fairly bad, detracts from the bungalow, prevents having a lovely entrance and more importantly blocks a direct window on bedroom 2, which has no natural light. Therefore, knock it down. This will also give you square footage allowance in hand. If you incorporate the garages into the main block of the house it allows the new bedroom space. You can build a free standing garage elsewhere on the plot, which is more than large enough, and, you already know you're not restricted to building behind the main building line. Change the garden room into a proper pitched room with insulated roof and walls, knock down the lounge wall and add bi-fold doors across the back. This now gets rid of both dated / unattractive additions. Take out the shower room and make it part of the entrance hall. The rest of the plan is pretty much self explanatory and gives you a new larger Master Bedroom with en-suite a large second bedroom and family bathroom and a further bedroom with en-suite ( for guests etc ), which used to be the main bedroom. All the plumbing should be ok, as i made use of positions already in use and back to backed the new ensuite with the old one. I think that is a very good question, that I was about to set myself! I have read that such a light can make things a bit blue, so it is best to go with the flow, and use bluish tinged colours. Certainly, the room I am sitting in which faces south-east, looks good with its light blue walls. The trouble is, I am not sure that blue is a good friend of food! What do the others out there think?

I think Carolina has worked hard but a professional would lend a different perspective. I think Carolinas suggestions represent a huge step up but getting the window proportions just right is too important to leave to photoshop alone. Since having to apply for planning permission means you have time and don’t need to make a quick decision I would consult a local architect or designer who would also consider the local vernacular and the streetscape to come up with a concept that sits well
