Thank you and a follow-up question
Most of the kitchen is in and I'm loving the look - I have houzz commenters to thank for this and hope you will enjoy a look at it nearly done (ignore the plaster patches).
I return, cap in hand, for your thoughts on another point. I had to decide the ceiling pendant placement on a moment's notice and with the wall shelves (which I would like to have, primarily as a decorative element), it feels like the pendant closest to the wall is butting up against the shelves.
(Wall shelves are photoshopped in to give an idea of their dimensions, I appreciate they are not straight.)
Moving them means having the builders come in for an additional visit, which they are reluctant to do, and I wonder if this is something so minor that I will eventually get used to it / not notice or have it bother me, and not something I'll notice, or if I should speak now and pay a little more to get the pendant placement 'perfect'?
What would you do, Houzzers?

last yearI didn’t really notice at first but I see what you mean. The pendant lights are lovely, but I think the shelving creates clutter, so I wouldn’t have them. How about a nice, trendy piece of art instead?

Comments (20)I'd say we all want to live in that lovely house we passed whilst on the way to go brambling with a jam jar in our hand and high hopes of a good day. Maybe it was the gates, or the gravel driveway that appealed, and it even had stone pillers and Georgian windows . And I'd wait and stare, and wait and stare curious about who lived there and hoping they'd drive out allowing me a quick glimpse of another world. Them. Then I'd feel ashamed stood there in my jumble-sale-new clothes, bothered that perhaps someone might come out and ask me what was I doing. I learnt it was a very rich person home, a shipbuilder who owned a shipping fleet and I wanted to copy him, if he could do it- then so could I. So that man and that lovely house blighted my life for the best, and it still does. I love this house and stop outside it whenever I pass by. I'm heart broken, and I'm a big strong man and big strong men are not allowed to cry. That adopted house is my comfort blanket, my home, and I go to sleep and it becomes mine.This is my lounge, this my garden, this gate is mine, and please come in when you go brambling. Comments (32)Beyond your desired look and feel, you need to have a list of appliances that need to be included in the layout. Most technical kitchen design is about how to fit all the appliances in. Cabinets tend to fit into place around them. I've noticed also that you want folding sliding doors (FSDs). They are very fashionable at the moment but come with certain issues you should be aware of. Firstly, they come with a lot of moving parts. Over time, new walls and door openings tend to settle and can cause issues with the ease of opening. When open, FSD panels take a up a surprising amount of space. You need to include that space in your plan. Of course, they can open to the outside but that could impede the flow of people outside. Consider large sliding doors or stacking sliding doors instead. If you're set of FSDs try to go with standard sizes as they tend to be less expensive than custom sizes. last yearThanks for pointing the height of the shelves out, I think you are right, particularly when they are not going to be floating but will have brackets, which will add to the visual clutter. Here's a photo of it just with one shelf, lined up to the sink shelf.
I'm leaning towards moving the pendants, and hoping that if we did that we could at least have two shelves in place? Builders are saying it'll be 'a ton of work' (so $$$) so if we are going to do it, I'd want to make the most out of the freed up wall space!
