Help with lining paper

Hi - I had a decorator put up my wallrock lining paper, cross lined (as per the photo) - is this normal to leave gaps? I'm worried that the gaps will show through my new paper? Help!

I prefer to have walls skimmed by a good plasterer rather than lining paper.

No it's not normal to leave gaps in lining paper (as far as I know).

Here is the sofa I have bought the room floor plan (the snug area is the bottom left area) the corner sofa will go in the bottom left corner with the long but along the left wall -facing the fire and the short bit against the bottom wall (as in the picture) I have also attached a photo of the wall paper against the sofa - but obviously it is no where near to scale!!! Oh also flooring will be oak herringbone parquet and a slate hearth for the stove ... Any Help and advice would be much appreciated - Thankyou!!

You could just put up lining paper over the top ( not advisable to paper over paper really, but people do! ) Then paint, or you could paint straight over the top of the previous owner's paper a nice pale colour to go with your peach crocodile wallpaper. Stick to Neutral colours, pale cream will go well with Peach. The paper doesn't go with the sofa, peach and pink is a bit of a no no. They also don't go great with the carpet. Pale pink with green is good, but the sofa is vibrant / deep pink and the carpet is deep green, so they don't sit well with each other. If you're keeping the carpet, then i'd suggest sticking to very neutral, Dulux Dusted Moss 3 is a beautiful pale green / grey and will go very well with the carpet. Dusted Moss 4 is also nice but has a slightly more green tinge to it. I'd start with the one thing that you do like, The sofa, the carpet or the paper, as none of them go together. Then ditch the two that you don't like and start from there. If you pick the paper, then get rid of the carpet and the sofa If you pick the Sofa, get rid of the carpet and change the wallpaper If you pick the Carpet, then get rid of the sofa and the wallpaper

Thanks Sonia - the walls had actually already been skimmed and the decorator put lining paper on top of that ...

Sack him. New plaster doesn't need lining paper and not done like that. I wouldn't pay him either if he objected threaten to charge him for the cost of removing his shoddy work.

linning paper on newly skimmed walls is absolutley fine, but it dosen't make sense to cross line this walls, unless wallpaper goes on top.
