Colour to paint a concealed steel beam

We've had a orizontal structural beam installed, which has been clad and plastered. I don't know whether to paint it the same colour as the ceiling (white), or the walls (Little Greene Joanna - a kind of greige)

Thanks all! Will look up timeless. I did a few samples yesterday but nothing quite the one. Loving the look of the Egyptian cotton samples. Yes I think I am leaning towards a deep blue or green wall. The photo Minnie sent is gorgeous. The cream splashback and grey breakfast bar worktop go on tomorrow so we'll be in a good place to start looking at accent colours. I do like unlucky denim blue but perhaps a little too light. Will upload some pics when done.

It looks to me that it's actually an 'exposed ceiling'. The plasterboard and insulation have been removed and the construction boards ( joists ) sanded and varnished . The last pic shows some kind of roofing material to the left. Hopefully that is concealing some insulation as it's the roof. I'd be a little concerned that it's actually a fire hazard, and possibly against today's building regs. I don't want to be alarmist, so just saying. Is the house in the U.K? I'd be looking to put back the plaster board and insulation as the sound travel must be quite horrendous and I'd check out the requirements for a ceiling and the fire issue. Maybe the boards have been treated with a fire retardant finish? It looks like the ceilings would have been quite low, which is why maybe the owner or previous one took down the ceilings in the first place. In short, i'd check out the requirements for the ceiling, consider the sound travel, the lack of insulation and heat loss.

I wouldn’t paint it the same colour as the steel. You are right, it would be too much. If you look at the room from the windows, the horizontal lines are the colour of your walls and the vertical lines are black/anthracite. To keep the balance, I would paint the beam the same colour as the walls. Otherwise you will have a grid effect which will detract from your beautiful plywood ceiling. A great choice of ceiling by the way. Light but warm. It’s going to look great

I have no idea yet on the floor - it will either be a grey tone or a warming brown wood in LVT (wood effect though, not tiles) Thought I would wait until the kitchen is in so I can get samples to put it next to it as we have custom F&B Off Black units and I haven't seen them yet, LOL. (they are being delivered Saturday!) eek. Don't want it to all feel too cold. We are still trying to finish replacing the floor joists and flooring in the lounge area in the evenings so hence struggling for time to decorate. Just can't think at the moment - might have to put one of our huge dust sheets over the units next week if I haven't decided soon. Will take a week or so before the quartz worktop comes anyway so there will be time I guess. Just a few units in the way/...

Sorry a bit late to comment but I would paint the beam the same as the ceiling. It will disappear more.
