help me decorate my mantle & fireplace surround
Hello,
I'm trying to figure out how to make this area a bit more visually interesting. Because the ceilings are vaulted, anything set on the mantle needs to be on the larger side or else it looks dwarfed. I don't want it to look too busy but the way it looks now is too empty. Any ideas?
Here is how I have it now, opinions about the candlesticks near the fire box?
This is how it was before with the candlesticks on top of the mantle on both sides. Although I generally like symmetry, I felt it was TOO symmetrical and ended up looking weird.

last yearI love the wicker wall plate if you will, but Art would be the way to go and not have clutter. I lso think you have enough candles in this room, on the floor, on the mantel on the coffee table. same with blankets, in the basket on the rack. Try filling the wood nook up all the way might help as well.

Comments (3)I think the picture is fine, it follows the lines of the brick pillars (it may need to to go a fraction to the right but that could be the camera angle but I cant tell if it's hung at the right height as the pic doesn't show the ceiling!)I'd go for brick slips for the hearth. In terms of ornaments you need a couple of things with some height on either side, they could match or not ( if not then get one taller than the other) but I think they need to be at least 2/3 inches higher than the bottom of the picture. I'd also centre the clock. I don't know what your style is but you could try orchids, vases or candlesticks, urns, decorative jars like a ginger jar etc. I think the rhino is too short with the picture tbh, unless you can lower the picture?...See MoreNeed help with decorating my living room

On top shelf maybe some tall books (like coffee table books) and have a tall vase/ ornament that you like (coloured to stand out) beside them. Perhaps you could add one division such as pic below. Comments (11)Hi. You only have a few pics in your ideabook so I don't really know what style you like or what else is in the room. If in budget I would do something like this with subtle black and white geometric tiles.
