Love the Drapes! Want the Drapes!

Can you tell me about the fabric used to make the drapes? It appears to a striped fabric with at least three different colors. The stripes also appear to be different widths. The way they hang makes me think the fabric is lightweight. Can you tell me more about the drapes and the way they are constructed? Thanks!

Gone through my album of our very own decorating therapy journey and found these. I hope you can see the roller black-out in the first photo, it's tucked inside the recess of the window. The Duette is a peachy colour which looks a lot lighter colour in the north-facing sun. The one in the five panel window is the room below, it does not have the roller blind but the curtains are black out. They are not as efficient in blocking out light as the roller in recess though. the curtains are from Hamilton McBride, only reason i got them were because not many wide (350cm) curtains are cheaply available on Amazon... If your room is not too cold, you can also consider wooden venetian, mine is in white colour as you can see from the 'blue room' (it's F&B's new Vardo btw), which is on the ground floor of the north facing side. 247 does oak colour too. Many neighbours asked us where we got those from!! They look great at a good price - those two windows cost me just under a £100 - but they are not the most energy efficient. They are okay blocking out light but if you have it in the south-facing room, it might not be quite enough. Do go to 247blinds and request some free samples, it's worth a try. Hope this helps! ;)

Hi sej103 If you would like to keep your existing curtains, we might suggest having a sheer voile curtain in the recess of your window, on either a tension rod or even wire. You could put in stained glass of some type or perhaps a traditional etched glass or sandblasted design . The benefit of stained glass is it that it adds colour to the inside and lights up like a lantern when it is dark. You can still have a panel you can see through if you wanted. I would recommend getting both the window and the doorway done to complement one another, as that would be really lovely from both the inside and the outside. Your entrance seems fairly exposed as it is, so another alternative would be to fit a secondary door internally to your hallway with an obscure glass treatment that would give you privacy. Veronica

Thanks all and sorry for the lack of response! E D: on the curtain fabric I was thinking of something like velvet or similar but as you say cotton may fold better...I am going to a fabric shop tomorrow so will have a good look at what they've got. Sarah: thanks for your suggestion, really like your choice!! But yes something with a shade may be better for our room... Ribena: drape and pool is exactly what I was thinking off thanks!!! And it had passed through my mind to have some cream wooden slated blinds also so just have the curtains for dress. Minnie: liking your suggestions...still very keen on curtains tho. As we Have space it would probably work better as you say to move the bedsides away from the bed a little. Will do some experimenting!! Also love the chair idea!! Hadn't thought of that but definitely nice to have a chair in a guest room :-) Gina: thanks v much also, liking those lights! Definately needs to be something minimal as you say... Really love these but not quite as willing to pay the price!!! a lot of food for thought! thanks all :-))
