As it is on your plan, no, I don't think there is enough room for an island if you want a dining table.

Can you share a plan of the entire floor, with dimensions? It's hard to say where best to put the kitchen without knowing what circulation looks like, where the doors lead to, the proportion of the kitchen in relation to the rest of the house...

How do you plan to use the study? Do you need it to be a separate room?

Perhaps you could think about doing something like this, image attached, if you square the island up slightly so you have enough room to manoeuvre around the sides and turn the dining table round.. Hope this was helpful. Good Luck!

This is the full floor plan. The kitchen leads onto a garden. The ‘dining room’ described in the floor plan is more of a lounge / library with no space for a table and we want to keep it separate.

The other options I’m considering is to either fill the 180cm where there was a shower room with a large larder and freestanding fridge (we currently have under counter fridge freezers which I’m not that keen on. Or alternatively have more cupboards at the bottom and a wooden shelf like in this photo above the cupboards

Ah shame just went to check measurements and with a 90cm clearance I only have 60 cm or space before the door opens.

What is the left garden wall measurement?….…i’m wondering if swapping the tall slim larder/cupboards with the hob/oven to give you enough width for the peninsula

I’m thinking that I might be going into a lot of extra work and expense and not really improving the kitchen much. I’m leaving the kitchen in the galley and am just adding a few cupboards instead of the shower room. That way I have enough counter space plus I’m not moving the kitchen around.

@karlucy the left garden wall is 60cm before the window starts. Right now I already have the sink in that area at 60cm depth. I wasn’t planning on moving it but you’re absolutely right - if I swapped the thinner cupboards in that area I could fit an island. I’m just not sure it’s worth the expense of shifting all the plumbing etc.

Yes, I think so too. You have a good space with great potential, but reconfiguring it to get an optimal layout would likely require a lot of work.

I'd also look into whether or not removing the bathroom would devalue your home.

Removing a downstairs bathroom in the corner of your living space, will not devalue your home.

Thanks for the reassurance Sarah. It definitely was a concern but personally I’d rather go upstairs to the loo and have a really lovely dining area. I’m keeping the kitchen as is and just adding more cupboards and nice shelving. I’ll use my budget to change the work tops and install ufh.

Right now we have black granite worktops so I feel a bit bad getting rid of them but I would much prefer the bottom cupboards being a dark colour instead of cream and having quartz tops.
