Design Dilemma Bathrooms

what big tiles go well with subway tiles in the bathroom

last year

I’m looking for a total bathroom refit and really love the subway glossy tiles in a light mint green but conscious of using too much grout in the showering area so was thinking either panels or big tiles
What would go well ?
Pics of my embarrassment of a bathroom and pics of the tiles I like for around the window and loo area!

Hi Kim, your bathroom looks pretty compact, so my humble suggestion would be to tile only the bath/shower section and leave the other walls free of tiles - it will make the space look bigger and brighter. And maybe you could have the metro tiles laid vertically to give the space a bit different look rather than going for the usual horizontal pattern. I'd then look for some feature tile as a splashback behind the basin to add some variety. Hope it helps, but feel free to reach out to me if you'd like to have a chat about it. Best regards, Anna

Love the subway tiles in that gorgeous colour. I think panels in the shower area are an excellent idea. Quite a few Houzzers have them and they are full of praise for them. I personally don’t like too much tiling in a bathroom as it can look heavy and clinical, so how about metro tiles laid in a stacked formation in a lovely colour above the sink/vanity up to the ceiling? Like first photo but your choice of tiles.

Hello Maxybaby, Subway tiles are gr8! I like too a darker grout, but in this case perhaps just a shade darker than white, so a very light grey, white tiles and white grout might be a little boring.... The concrete style tile may be more interesting too and bigger size would be better for a smaller room....... Why not continue this theme with a light grey paint as opposed to duck egg blue.. Keeping to the idea of grey and concrete would be rather nice as it's cohesive.. :))

Hi Ffion, I have to agree with Thelma Henry Interiors. Use a large format wall tile, even 450 x 900 to have as few grout lines as possible. Porcelanosa do several pale grey tiles, Rodano Acero 80 x 80 cm, Nápoles 44 x 66 cm, and others. Paint an "old" white above to match the white of your floor tile. Make sure there's enough contrast between the paint colour and the white of the sanitary ware to avoid having the walls look dirty. Hope that's useful.

I think most rich and bold colours will go with cream but it has to be the right cream. Some creams are more yellowy in tone, others more pink toned. As Asifa has suggested pics will help us get a sense of the space and style. Though I do like Ribena's red suggestion. Very boutique hotel boudoir!,

tiled skirting in a bathroom - using wall or floor tiles?

On top of the skirting? No way! I think that would look awful. Far too bulky in a sleek designed room. We have an ensuite which has the wall tiles sitting on top of the floor tiles to give the impression of more of a wet room effect. We also have a main bathroom and in here have the floor tiles cut to the size of the skirting that was originally in there height wise and then placed on top of the floor tiles So one room has nothing and the other room has the floor tiles up the wall as a skirting.
