Open Porch ideas

Hey guys, my partner and I like the idea of an open porch to our property, but we have this stone curve above the door, would it even be possible and how do we get around this curve?

I think it looks lovely as it is. Trying to get a porch to incorporate the stone would be difficult, I feel.

I also think it looks good as it is….. but if you want a porch perhaps the solution is to build tall in order to cover this stone work….. but since the stone suits this house and likely your neighbours also have some of this stone perhaps the new porch can include some similar stone.

If you took out the sliding doors you could make a lovely feature of the covered porch and highlight your front door, maybe a little bench at the side if it's wide enough, or a log store if you have a log burner/open fire, I always think covered porches look welcoming.

I think it's safe to say that the crux of the matter is the 80's extension roof. If you're going to the trouble of a new extension then the roof needs to go and then both bits tied in properly. The doorway through to the back garden is too close to the Front door, and the roof is larger than that of the front door. They at the very least need to be identical sizes, or preferably under one roof the same pitch and proportions as that of the garage. The porch needs to be grander and centralised. I'm no expert plan drawer by any means, but i did a mock up of what i had in mind, the rest would be down to the architect and budget.

For the OP - the porch should be designed to fit in with the existing building otherwise it has the danger of looking like a big carbuncle stuck onto the house. For that reason, take your lead from the bay windows. I'd brick the sides up to the same level as the bottom of the window in the bays then glaze with similar frames and glass. The door can be the same as what you're proposing but keep the glass the same as on your house - TBH, the photo of the door doesn't look like mirrored glass, I think it's just the reflection from the photo (I might be wrong?!?). The roof can be the same as you have and either brick the front gable or glaze it.

Perhaps a built in seat box at the far end. If you make it with slatted wood for the air to circulate then it should weather well and then is somewhere to perch to pop the wellies on/off too. Then you could add a 'window box' style planter to the walls and bring some greenery in to the space too. It will help make things prettier!
